i need help, i have this really fire cut shake, 80/20 nug to small amount of sugar leaf,
couldnt get any quality out of a -5 degree qwet, no matter how fast the wash....... as a last resort i ran a batch with colibri and then i winterized for 12 hours, shit is still dark but came out with an enormous yeild and tastes alright.... its just ugly, i think the material is aged, never had an extraction like this......
does any one have some ancient secret to brighten an extraction.......i dont know what to do

sounds like ur material is old or harvested beyond peak ripness
i completely agree, just i feel like ive worked with worse, just never had somthing come out this dark, excluding some gigabag of mexi-schwagg i had last year, the oil is stable at room temp and easily handleable, just looks horrid...... would single solvent dewaxing in the funnel followed by a winterization do anything better than just a winterization

While the extract is warm, dilute it w ethanol like ever clear and add a pinch of activated charcoal to the solution and heat it up. When it starts boiling, send it through a <2 micron fritted disc funnel w vacuum. It is known as a hot gravity filtration. Never add activated charcoal to an already boiling solution as it will boil over.

Some extracts come out really dark. Nothing can be done despite every trick in the book is applied. The reason is perhaps due to oxidation from old material where CBN has kicked in. It can also be loaded w cannabinoids and have a dark color. My bubble hash oil scored 91% total cannabinoids, and that was a reddish black extract.IMG_20140901_033808-2.jpg

What color were the trichomes? Amber trichomes produce darker oil than clear or cloudy.

Old desiccated material, doesn't have the frozen water holding pigments in place, so can come out darker.

You could lighten the color some by mixing QWET alcohol mixture with equal parts n-Pentane or n-Hexane, and saturated brine. Check out the procedure at http://skunkpharmresearch.com/getting-the-green-and-waxes-out-afterwards/. Depending on what the pigments are, that can lighten the extract. It won't lighten amber trichome extract.

Filtering through activated charcoal will remove the more polar elements, which usually are more vividly colored, but will leave behind some of the polar carboxylic acids as well.

We've had our best luck using a chromatography column and silicon beads: Check out the different fractions, starting with light yellow and ending in dark amber. There were virtually no cannabinoids in the last three dark washes.
