Hey everyone, just wanted to show off my first grow and get started with my first Journal! For this grow I will be using Short Stuff Seeds Short Stuff #1. The Box itself is 24"x15"x 24" both intake and outtake fans and a 125w CFL. I will be using more lights as side lighting as the grow gets going

For Nutes I have the FoxFarm Trio and soil the FoxFarm Ocean Forest.

I guess we can consider this day 1 (yay :bigjoint:) I have the seed soaking in water for 24 hours and then will be moving it to paper towels if it does not pop in that amount of time. The seed will be planted in a small pot to begin with and then transplanted into the bigger container seen above and will live its life in that container. I will be using LST to help keep her short and bushy.

Im looking forward to growing with you guys and learning all the wonderful knowledge you have to offer!

Update Day 2-

My little girl sprouted over night, socked in water for about 22-23 hours. (sorry forgot to get a taproot photo) I got her planted in her new home for 2-3 weeks before I move her to the bigger and final container for the rest of the grow.

Any tips to keep my little seedling happy?

Day 3-

Top few inches were dry so I gave the girl some more water. Checked the PH of the run off and it was 6.7. I will admit I don't have the nicest PH meter it only cost me 15$. A nice high quality one is definitely in my future list. Looking forward to when she pops threw the soil!

Few questions today?

  1. Should I cut a bottle to put over the top of the seedling to help with humidity?

2.Once she does pop threw the soil how long should I wait to move the lights closer? Right now there about 5-6 inches from the top of the soil.

Added bonus picture of my basil!

Day 4-

So far so good on doing a daily check in, hopefully I don't start to slack off in the upcoming days haha.

Still nothing threw the soil yet, hoping Friday or Saturday will be the get I get to place my eyes on her. Added just a dash of water around the edges of the pot as it was starting to separate from the side. Also added the sandwich bag to help with humidity and the soil drying out so fast.

I would try to cover the soil more, than the actual plant....if possible...just asking for dampening or botrytis to set in...maybe cut a hole in the bag and let the seedling pop thru, but you can lift it up to spray or water your medium, then cut it away later....

As for pH, I would test more what is going in, than what is coming out....a cheap meter is fine, keep it clean and calibrated!

I don't care if you don't use the best or worst stuff available to you, consistency is the key to success. I have seen some people cut the top of a soda bottle off so you just have a dome leave the top off so it affords you a degree of ventilation but keeps some humidity in. How much perlite did you add to the mix? if any at all.

You need MORE LIGHT man. Nutes don't matter if the plants are starving (and stretching) for Lumens. Do them a big favor and get a 200-250w CFL Lamp. Amazon, e-bay. Or, just hang a 150w hps in there- if you have good ventilation, I would even Push for a 250w HPS. Adequate lighting is EVERYTHING -
