‘High Times’ The Ascent Of Legal Marijuana

On the very 1st day of business, Colorado’s legalized Marijauna shops saw $1-M in revenue. A week later related stocks spiked.

The legalized marijuana market is expected to grow 64% this year, >>faster than the global smartphone market, acording to ArcView Market Research, a company that provides data on the Marijuana industry.

Entrepreneurs and investors are all over the blooming opportunities in the sector, and given the prospects, more people are expected to follow. But, legalized Marijuana brings many challenges.

Marijuana is legal in Washington and Colorado, itis still illegal according to Federal law. And, many businesses have avoided or distanced themselves from the Marijuana industry.

Many property owners do not want to rent space for Marijuana businesses.

From sales to payroll, much of the the Marijuana business is limited to cash-only transactions because banks do not want to open accounts or make loans.

And, the Colorado Bar Association prohibits lawyers from getting involved with Marijuana businesses, so Marijuana shops cannot even get help drawing up contracts.

There are also a long list of requirements from regulators that must be met to allow Marijuana businesses to operate without FBI raids. In Washington, for example, Marijuana shops must be 1,000 feet from parks, churches and schools.

Compliance translates to costs, which makes the legal businesses competing with the underground market more difficult.

Legalized businesses are essentially relying on consumers’ willingness to pay a premium for legitimate products.

“For this experiment to succeed, >>it has to undercut the grey market. The inefficiencies have to be removed, and capitalism allowed to work its magic. That means producing at scale.

Analysts>>> envision large corporations eventually moving into the market,>>> creating risk for small business owners.

But some expect the Marijuana business to get easier as society, lawmakers, banks, and service providers change their attitudes.

It is not just entrepreneurs and investors who stand to benefit from Marijuana. Legalization is a smart move for states, and more should follow Washington and Colorado in the years to come, Florida has put the legalization on its November ballot

Marijuana provides government another industry to tax.

The Tax Foundation estimates Marijuana will mean an additional $70-M in taxes for Colorado chests.

If all 50 states were on board, savings from drug enforcement coupled with new tax revenues may total $17-B overall, the Cato Institute estimates.

And, there are the public health benefits.

Some suggest alcohol and drugs, such as cocaine, are more likely to cause costly health problems according to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.. When Marijuana is totally legal, people could opt for it as the better choice.

Stay tuned, this is an ongoing story and HEMP is a >>trillion dollar<<industry.
