Hempy VS. Top Feed for SOG?

I'll be doing a sog of 16 plants in a 4x4 space. They'll be in 1 gallon containers with a 75/25 mix of perlite and vermiculite.

I'm debating if I should do Hempy buckets, or should I do a recirculating top feed system? If I go top feed, how many times per day should I set it to feed?

I would go with hempy because it's near fool proof as the top feed system is more complex.....just my opinion

I would do hempy. Less work involved. The more plants you grow the simpler you want to keep things cause dealing with a bunch of plants in a complicated setup is a pain in the ass!

So 2/2 on hempy, plus I do agree with your statements about them being easy. I neglected the hell out of them on my first grow and somehow the girls were still beautiful. I love the growth from my RDWC, but it also requires daily attention and a $300 reservoir meter. So I guess I'll go hempy again! thanks guys!

I would do Hempy as well...how long were you planning to veg? A 1 gallon water jug is 7x7 inches...I could fit like 20-25 and veg till they hit the res, clean out the underbrush and goooooooo

I guess I'd veg until they're big enough, but I was hoping for only a week or two. I'm using 1 gallon buckets but I'm not sure of the dimensions off the top of my head. I have a 4x4 tent but only a 3x3 drain tray so I'm limited to 16 buckets.

Hey guys, I've got another question to add onto this. For my next setup after this harvest, I want to run a SOG with 1 gallon buckets, and use hydroton as my medium. I loved my Coco/perlite hempys last time, but you can't reuse the medium easily, because of all of the trapped roots. So what kind of system should I use for a hydroton SOG? Top feed, hempy? I know hydroton doesn't hold water well, so the system has to be watered often, or almost constantly.

Hempys are near foolproof. But hydroton just won't stay wet long enough to make a run to waste system worth while. Either flood it or top feed and recirculate.

You could use a mix of hydroton and another medium to make hempys more viable but you would still have the problem of reusing whatever medium u choose.

Yeah, that's almost entirely the reason I'm running RDWC right now. I've got nothing but hydroton and water to get rid of at the end. My coco hempies worked nice last time but it took 3 hours to break up 9 root balls, and the coco was still a total loss. So I think a top feed might be my route since net pots are expensive and you can get buckets free.
