One of the main advantages of hempy is the res. If you are going to do this be aware that it will take a lot of nutrients on a regular basis. Managing the drainage is going to require some extra effort on your part. Other than that, I see no reason why not to try it.

hey L T thanks for the reply mate i plan on using a couple of them i have loads of buckets but they seem to waist a lot of space when i spread them out, i,ve been tempted to try this method since i first seen it but thought i might be better getting my first grow out the way with first cheers mate +rep for putting my mind at ease

I shoot for 5.5-5.7 for my ph and push the nutrients hard in veg. Slightly less than full strength per the Dutch Masters guide. The guide calls for 38 mls per 2 gallons of water and I use about 30-32mls.

Need a little help, Hempy Masters! I've been growing in soil, got a pretty good handle on that. Began my first Hempy experiment four weeks ago, and it seems I'm doing something wrong. Sprouted a Super Lemon Haze seed in a peat pellet. Put the pellet into a 16oz party cup, under CFL's. At around two weeks old, transplanted that into it's final three gallon bucket. using 100% perlite. Since I moved to the big bucket however, growth has been slow, and the entire plant turned a pale yellow! Started feeding around 2.5 weeks, to try and counter this - some green has come back to the plant, but it's still awefully small for a four week old plant! It's under a 400w MH light. The picture next to it, is a Train Wreck I planted on the same day as the SLH, same everything, except it's in soil - look at the difference in size! What am I doing wrong?

Been feeding it full strength nutes for a week and a half now, every watering. Temps are good, humidity a bit low but not detrimentally low (28%).

do you spray the leaves? when you trans plant, the roots are not getting to the water at the bottom,so i water more often for a few days and make sure i pour the water onto the roots at the base of the plant.and foliar feed once a day.

Just wondeing because of the leaf edges and tips curling up. Maybe for some odds reason you have lockout? PH of the res ok? Have the roots made it to the res? If any of these may be out of wack you may try just flushing the medium for a few days. And foliar feed during that time with a high n guano/compost tea also.

Seedlings struggle for the first month or so in hempy buckets. Dont get discouraged with it.

If you had used a Clone instead, your hempy would be outgrowing the soil for sure.

Ok, that's what I was wondering. I'm sure I've contributed to the issue, being the first time I've tried this. I've got a few spare clones working on rooting now - maybe I'll give it a go with one of those. I've got new baby Chronic seedlings I was going to try in the Hempy Buckets - but I don't wanna screw up with those, as much as they cost. :peace:

Here is a photo of an ak48 clone that was cloned in a peat pellet with schultz rooting hormone. Being this was my first attempt at cloning it took almost 2 weeks before it really rooted. Once I noticed the root mass I transplanted it into my first hempy bucket grow. Im using a 1 gallon bucket with 3 parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite. I added via stone on top for stem support plus it looks good.. I'm only using BMO organic nutes & a 90watt cree 6band led for my first hempy bucket experiment. I'm thinking about getting away from using my 400watt hps during flowering on 3 footers in my cabinet If I can get this lil clone to bud up. If so I just may get away from hids & use a stronger led panel for flowering but knowing me I doubt it, I do however know one thing, I'm really digging hempy bucket style. Cheers to hempy buckets !!

Hey fellow Hempy growers! I have 2 seedlings going at the moment and they seem to be doing pretty good so these are not that urgent and I tried looking for the info. I started my seeds in 20oz Styrofoam cups and have the res hole about 1.25 inchs up. I feed very late/early in the morning (1:30am) and by the time it gets to the afternoon the res is dry (or atleast seems to be). Should I also foliar feed\water once later in the day? I'm sure I wont have this problem in the future as I will be transplanting them into bigger buckets. Also for feeding I currently do the following: feed, feed, water, ect. without skipping a day (using 1/4 strength nutes), I did this because I didn't start adding nutes when she got her first set of true leaves so I started having issues right away. Is this alright to do while they are seedlings? I'm sure the roots are in the res as I can see one inside the hole.

Edit: Found one answer "Depending on your environment, you may have to water seedlings and young plants twice daily. Their roots have not reached the resovoir on the bottom yet and will starve in the lifeless medium you have thrown them in!" Still wondering what to do if the res is empty, consistently everyday? Transplant?

I would say your over feeding and watering. You wont need to water that often till the plant is a little bigger. You definitely want the medium to be moist but you would probably be ok watering every other day. And feed once per three waterings. See if that helps and good luck.

So it is fine for the res to be dry? I was just curious (which made me worried) since the perlite does not retain much water but it does seem that I should give em a break. Thanks!

If your using the hempy set up there should always be some water retained in the pot under the drain hole level. Check the weight of your pot after a heavy watering and then after maybe an extra day of drought say three instead of two. This will give you an idea of how they feel dry vs. wet. They should maintain a balance between the two if your watering every two days or so.

I give mine 750ml every two days currently going on day 2 of 12/12. I have been adding a lot of nutrients to correct a micronutrient def., and also to get the nutrients for flowering. Hempy buckets will retain some nutrients like soil and unlike hydro.

Watch your plants closely to see what they need, and don't worry about "under-doing" it first.

I have been following the schedule you suggested and so far they are looking good, a little less green but I'm sure I was over-feeding. Thanks for all the info, again!!!
