Help with Trimming

My two ak-47 girls are 4 weeks in flower and doing great. One is four foot and the other five. I need advice on trimming during this period. The lower branches are getting little benefit from light, so id rather cut them and focus water and nutes on upper limbs. So where should i cut? Where the branch meets the stem or somewhere else. just cut um off as close to the stem as possible,,,will slow growth down for a day or 2,,,,
