Help with migraine... is smoking enough, or do I need to make edibles or ?

I'm rather new at truly medicating. I've smoked for years to help nausea, but it's been just "weed", not any strain made for pain, etc.

Last year, I purchased AK 47 seeds and grew 4 plants. I got them for it's properties of helping MIGRAINES. The plants were harvested in October, and luckily I haven't had any migraines up until now. It smokes nicely. I don't get "stoned", as I'm ill, and I no longer get the euphoria, but it helps the nausea, and my head gets a little "loopy" :), but nothing like before I was sick....

Anyway, I started getting the migraines last Saturday, and was looking forward to some help with my "new" plant......well, it did not help at all....:-(.

I'm hurting too bad to go through all the threads to find something, so forgive me for just asking, but is smoking it supposed to be good enough, or do I need to make it into an edible or oil or hash?......

OR, did I need to try another strain? I've already ordered my seeds for this year, and didn't include one for Migraines.... Gold Leaf, for Anxiety, Insomnia and Stress; and Trainwreck, for Headaches, insomnia, pain & stress. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but thought I'd ask.

thanks!

Everyone reacts differently so you may need to try a few strains before finding one that helps you. I typically have 10-16 strains going, none of the high THC strains did much if anything for my migraines. But my CBD strain works.

From my own experience, my CBD strain works great for me, a 1:1 ratio of CBD/THC seems to be minimum, a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio works almost instantly smoking it. Edibles tend to be better for longer term relief, if you can find a strain that helps you with your migraines then you can grow enough to make caps or edibles as well.

My strain is my own cross but there are a lot of CBD strains out there. Harlequin is the basis for my CBD crosses which tends to be in the 1:1 range for CBD/THC. But after crossing it I've found 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1 phenos in there.

my patients' headaches are exacerbated with cannabis use.
cbd strains give me nausea.
agree with above, strains affect different people different ways at different times even as op learned.
So no -marijuana strains cannot be said to be "for headaches" that way

So far, all the strains I've tried have helped my nausea, most of the time. I can understand how different strains are different for each person. I'm ill, and can only manage 10 plants; getting 5 seeds minimum of each strain, so only 2 strains a year. This is my 2nd year to grow actual strains. The first year we just grew seeds a friend gave us that someone gave him :|. So, those plants were all different, but I have no idea what kind they were, and I don't think any were anything special.
I've got to learn how to make caps. I'm hearing good things about them.
thanks!

i've actually read a few things about low doses of magic mushrooms can help prevent migraines in many people..

Interesting article. We have cows, so probably have the right mushrooms on the property, but I haven't tried any since the '70's.....and, I'm not sure I want to get into that right now, but will keep it in mind if I can't get the migraines better. Right now the pain is driving me crazy.

I suffered a brain injury in 2008, was left with a permanent "post traumatic headache". Basically daily headaches, that vary in intensity from mild throbbing, to full blown, 3-day migraines. Cannabis has been limited in its ability to help, I find that it can help take the edge off of the less intense pain, but once it gets to "migraine" status it seems like smoking cannabis actually makes it worse. There's no 1 strain that is for headaches. People make a lot of claims, but ultimately cannabis interacts with everyone differently. You might require different ratios of cannabinoids than the next person.

I originally read an article on psilocybin and its effects on "cluster" migraines. Then I began reading the many studies and articles regarding psilocybin and depression, which I was also dealing with. After much reading I decided to give it a try. It was incredible, less intense headaches and a major reduction of my depression/anxiety symptoms for approximately 2.5-3 months after 1 use. I now take them every 2 months, and life has been significantly better.

Lately I've been contemplating micro dosing psilocybin daily, been reading many good things.

I hear that with repeated use the hallucinogenic effect diminishes if not goes away until you lose the tolerance.

smoking for me when I have migraines tend to make it worst (never tried CBD). shrooms do help with migraines in my experience(which I only did a few times, at least when I had a migraine, otherwise just for fun). I wish you luck I remember the pain being so bad at times rain drops felt like knives, lights made my head feel like it will explode, and nothing helped.

I guess I might look into it. Seeing more than one person talk about it makes it even more legit. When the pain dies down, I'll look it up and find out how to do it.

I also got a headache that has never gone away in 1983 after a cornea transplant. It's considered a tension headache, but nothing will take the pain away, and only one synthetic opiod will lessen it. Cannabis doesn't help that one. I've also got terrible fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I use the Cannabis for nausea mostly. It also helps with the general all around feeling. But, I was sure hoping once I got a good strain that I paid $$$$$ for, that it would help the headaches.......l could have gotten just as good of results from the bag seed I was growing, as I don't get the euphoria (not the "stoned" feeling") due to being ill; it just works on the nausea, and can't tell the difference between really good strains and regular old weed when I smoke it. I hear a lot of people that are ill say that, too. At least it helps the nausea, which is awful to live with, and I get it daily.

i'm the same.. i get some really bad headaches at times.. never been to a dr. over them, so not sure if they'd be considered migraines or what, but they get so bad that they'll make me throw up at times..
anyhoo, i'm the same way, i smoke cigs, and when i get a bad headache, the last thing i want to do is smoke anything, cannabis included, and i've never tried any high cbd strains either.
