help small plants

Help 3 of my 4 plants are really short. They are 42 days old

#2) 4 3/4" tall
#3) 6" tall
#4)6 1/2" tall

I have used nutes 3 times due to having to flush from nutes burn. I am using Fox farm grow big at this point in time. I have a 400 watt hps about 19" away. What am I doing wrong?. Great airflow with an oscillating fan. And a 6 inch can fan creating negative pressure at almost 400 cfm replacing air every minute or two. Heat stays between 75 and 82. RH is 45 to 65. I am soo dumbfounded. They look healthy just short. I am also using 40% perlite and 60% happy frog soil in 3 gallon planters.

When this happens, with no logical explanation- it's more often than not the tender tap (main) root dried out at some point. So, I'm guessing early in the plants life the medium dried out too much stunting the roots. Otherwise, your plants look healthy for about 3 weeks of growth. But 42 days.............I'd bet I'm right.

Start flowering and see what happens, i wouldnt toss them. That would just be a waste.

I had a plant bitch out on me. After sitting for weeks and months it's finally starting to grow. Only think I changed was a bulb, but none of the other plants were stunted.

I water about every 3 days when the top inch is dry. They are recovering from being flushed due to nutes burn so they might look over watered. I believe the taproot drying up hit the nail on the head.

That stuff about top inch is fine for small pots, but wont apply to big pots. Top inch on mine 43l/11gallon is dry in an hour or two...

I understand fully what you are saying. It is very easy to over water in a bigger planter. When they are dry I only water about 125 to 175 ml depending on how they drink. I am almost positive they are stunted due to the tap root drying out then over watered due to being flushed. I'm wondering if they will yield anything worth the amount of electricity being used to grow them. I already have 3 more seedlings under a cfl for replacements. I know they will be short plants as they are grapefruit haze. And they are already fairly small plants.

I started some plants from seed, and in about a months time they looked like what you've got here. (This was after transplanting twice to encourage root growth). I have some pictures, so I can be sure of the timeline. In another month they were much bigger, probably three times as tall and much wider. Maybe wait another month before flowering, and in the mean time take some clones and see how they do?

Also the lights look kind of orangish, what temperature bulbs are you using?

I will definitely keep them in veg for another month. And watch them. I am not sure if I want to clone them due to not knowing what sex they are yet. I rushed and tried to get everything set up and took short cuts that stunted growth sad sad day lol. Portland born and raised!! #Its legal!!!

In that case you should definitely clone them and sex the clones while you're waiting! I'm a transplant, but i'm still digging the new law! I managed to get a free sugar plum seed from stony girl gardens, apparently if it's a male they will swap it out for a clone. Tons of strains for a "15 dollar donation" on craigslist. Kind of lame, looking forward to getting a few though!

Yeah I try to steer away from Craigslist. I got these from nectar. I will probably try clones next. They are about 15 at a dispensory as well. And I'm working with just one grow tent 4x4x6 1/2" so I can't really flower them to find out without putting them all I to flower.

Ah, I don't have an ommj card, so I can't go to dispensaries yet, so I'm stuck with craigslist. I heard they may allow dispensaries to start selling recreational too, since the whole licensing stuff won't be ready until next year, but I don't know how legit that article was.

I don't have a grow tent. You can really do it in a closet with a two pack of the soft white CFL from Freddy's (2 is like 80watts / 3200 lumens). I flowered two cuttings earlier this year that way, took about 2 week to be absolutely sure (I was sold on the preflowers, but wanted to be certain).

Yeah i know a couple of them like la mota and the one on Harold by urban indoor have sold some to friends without cards. And I will definitely try that. Gotta pick up some rooting gel and rockwool thanks for the idea. I remember watching a YouTube video of a guy doing it. It seemed to work well.
