I been hanging my bud for like a week and it has gotten real crispy. Does the bud lose weight if it gets too dry?. When I smoked the bud after curing it burned realfast

Boveda packets work very well. Be sure to get the 62% packs.

I respectfully disagree that 3 days should be max. Living in a very humid climate like the NW, I find a week is about right. I even put a very small bath dehumidifier on a 12/12 cycle which helps start the cure a little on the branch.

* 12/12 cycle on the dehumidifier lets the outside get dry while it's on, then the moisture comes out of the stems when it's off making the buds feel moist again. Like burping on the vine.

The other hint I would like to share is don't get caught up in these "rules". The amount of time needed to hang or even to cure, varies a great deal depending on time of year, weather, strain, grow success, my point is; there is no right or wrong way to go about.

I have always been confused by the common assumption that the worst thing you can do is over dry. You'll never get a good cure if it's not dry enough. You can't be concerned with weight over quality, that's just lame.

Maybe you over dried it, but honestly, maybe not. I'd rather have pot that burned quickly into clean white ash, then moist pot that leaves those little black coals that never quite burn. If you're seeing little black coals, quests what? You're weed isn't cured.

Turbobuzz is correct, curing is at least as hard as growing, and the final most crucial two weeks of the grow are the hardest to execute correctly.

But it seems to me the OP is on the right track. Don't under dry.

I'm pretty new at this myself, and I think the curing correctly thing is harder than actually growing it!
I certainly made my early mistakes in every facet of growing. And I agree that drying and curing not-too-slow-but-not-too-fast is not as easy as it sounds.

You'll get the hang of it. Keep reading and learning.

I used small pieces of lettuce in my curing jars last year to add moisture back to my over-dried bud. It worked as far as adding back moisture, but I'm not sure if it fixed the potency degradation caused by the initial over-drying. Probably not.

As to the question does over drying lose weight?

Well yes, by definition, less water = less weight

But.... right amount of water = right amount of weight

The theoretical internal humidity you want in your bud is 62%. You need a hygrometer.

http://www.cubancrafters.com/digital-hygrometer-thermometer-for-cigar-humidors/

I'm sure you could crunch the numbers and figure out exactly how much weight lose occurs at 62% but that would seem a bit much.

But again, quality should be priority #1.

Wow,,,that's an awful fast dry......I use a specific area to dry in, built just for that. Humidity is kept at 50% and it takes around 2 weeks to dry properly (the snapping stem thing). Then they get jarred and cured for at least another 2 weeks to make it smooth and tasty, with the proper "burn" and "buzz". To cure you jar and open the lid a little bit every day for a few min (around 5-10). and reseal.

Naw its some good cure because dont wait till the stem breaks ,like it when it bends just a bit its all in the jaring and burping u better be good at jaring cause thats what keeps that dank stench!
U can tank me later noobsbongsmilie
How often do you have to burp after jarring it up with only 3 or 4 day dry...must be a long curing process the short drying time means your nuggs are filled with chlorophyll...If you forget to burp once you're fucked...If you don't burp often enough you're fucked...u can make life easier on yourself by slowing down the drying. . Sometimes it takes me three weeks to dry bud......lowering the temperature will make a world of difference. ..

Exactly u really have to burp 2wice a day and dry if its nessesary. Like i said it all in the jaring and be diligent if u think that u need more drying time, usually do 3 days and its bendable stem but a few hrs after jaring its too moist then take it out and put it in a paper bag for another day but its all dependent on how moist it is. It can also b too dry if u put in paper bags so like i said be diligent. U can do a combination of hang and then paper bag.
but if u want sticky nugs and that stench of weed u might want to have some moisture.

I left mine to hang while on holiday for a week and live in low humidity UK, was a bit dry when I came back but as soon as you jar them, they will surprise you with what moisture they have inside them as it comes out of the stems and the inside of the bud.

Jar for 24 hours and you'll see the difference. Then go into burping routin .
