ok so check this out..............
Im new to this growing process so i decided to start with both hydroponics and soil.........
I germinated my seeds in paper towel like some of you guys suggested and it worked then i placed them 3 in to rockwool cubes and one in soil.............
Im using a ph balanced water with 5.9 and nutrients at half strength..............................
The seed planted in soil looks great and strong but the ones ins rockwool look scrowgny (bad) only one looks like its gonna make it im i doing something rong...................................:?

i heard from a bunch of places that soil should be around 6.5 to6.8 for ph and the run off should be 5.8 to 6.2
and if im not mistaken i think with a hydroponics the ph should be something diff not the same as the soil ph
did u go to grow faqs? its on the top of the page click on there and that will answer alot of ur questions
and like the first couple weeks like 2to3 weeks u dont want to feed them to young for that

ive found soil sprouts faster - rockwool can take a bit longer , make sure its not waterlogged coz that can slow the uptake from the roots prettybad - my first hydros sadly didnt make it .
besta luck ur side , get sum clay pebbles to support weak stalks till they strengthen up

yeh n clowdys got a good point . . jorge recommends hydro ph 5.5-6.2 , 6-7 clay soils and 5.5-6.5 with potting soils.
keep the nutes closed , seeds have thier own food at first ( could well be the abundence of nutes slowing growth or interfearing with uptakes of others)

Yea i was also thinking that...... I will drop the ph to 5.6 and use only 15% to 25% nutes for the cubes........ They might be burning the seedlings.....ill let u know how it turns out...thanks

dont give nute for the first couple weeks of life once its like 3 1/3 4 weeks then its ok
and some people dont even give thier plants any nutes till they see that they need it.
and when u star give the nutes dont give it the full dose either.introduce the nutes slowly
to get it used to it do like 1/4 dose then gradully move up the dose.

I agree with the guy above. Use Peat pellets. (jiffy pellets) whatever you want to call them.

Rockwool has to be presoaked for at least 24 hours before using it in a ph'd bucket of water. It's ph when new is really high. Even when the cubes are pre-soaked like they should be I have found peat pellets to work nearly twice as good. 48 hours is better.

You are making growing complicated. It isn't. I really think you should have just chosen one method and a simple version at that.

There are many soils you can just water when dry and make it all the way to harvest with practically no work at all.

the only thing wrong is that you burned the fuck out of them. they should start out at 1/4 power of nutes when you do start which shouldnt be till at least 2-3 weeks after they are fully rooted.

i have never really kept track of my ph for soil grows, they never really had any problems, soil is easy as hell to grow in.

i keep my hydroponic water at about 5.7 ph. i dont have a ppm meter, i use the simple flora series nutrients and they are forgiving, besides i never use full strength, more like 2/3 strength tops. should i get a ppm meter? how much are they?

I don't think a ppm meter is necessary for soil. You'll get a feel of how much it takes and the plants will teach you/ show you if you give too much.

It can't hurt... But it's one of those things you'll probably quickly leave on the shelf and stop using after the first grow.

i have a drip system hydro setup too. i mixed my nutes at like 1/4th power recamended so i think ill be fine for a while.

i dont really agree about the rockwool though, i started germinating 4 days ago planted the next day and have 10 babys already and i only used a spray bottle to get the rockwool damp and im growing some bagseed.

Ok so should i stop the nutes and just feed them ph balanced water until next week im guessing.... Cause two seedlings died today its confirmed but one in rock wool looks like its gonna make it and the one in soil still looks good.

if they are still under 3 weeks old dont feed them wait till like 3 1/2 or 4 weeks old
while they are young they already have what they need to survive givin them food is like givin them nute burn or too much nutes they dont need it.
and if they are dieing change the soil and give it fresh soil cuase the nutes u have been giving them is still there feeding them
