HELP...Green Algie on top of dirt.????

I have a few established clones that are ready for transplant to larger growing medium. I noticed that there are a couple with green algie in the top of the dirt and about 2 inches down in the dirt. (When clear cup is pulled up out of red outter cup, this can be seen). I had to start these in a basemant due to a robbery. The temp was around 72 degrees and humidity was around 20%. I have purchased a heater today and hope this will help. Any suggestions for why this happened and most importantly, how to control the damaged plants / algie? Thanks.

Algae grows on all damp media exposed to light. You can cut pieces of cardboard/panda film, etc and put them around the plants to cover the algae.

Both clear and red cups allow light to penetrate and thus algae can grow.

The algae will not hurt the plants but it does compete for nutrients.

algae is telling you the medium is too wet.
