I worked at soil distributor name Fafard.. the bark is composed at high temps (sometimes so hot they caught on fire) there for killing any bugs... In organic growing gnat are Going to come regardless. i have theory that using coco might actually bring spidermites into your garden.. "not always" but coco doesn't get composted like a soil blend, I believe using bark will actually hold water better and add a better flavor.. decomposition is your friend.

ive been growing with COCO for 5 years> I have NEVER had spider mites. That is utter nonsense. I follow plenty of grows and coco is not the means for inviting spider mites. What invites spiders mites are people who grow that allow pets into their growing quarters , don't have a tightly sealed space and don't practice good hygiene.
