Heartburn Attack!

Dam, Drank and smoked last night late. Had one freakin slice of pizza right before bed, and had the worst heartburn all night long!

I really wanted to pull out my PH UP and drink a spoon full or two. Anyone ever done this. I have had killer heartburn since I was a kid. Some said to try Vinegar, tried that did work. Milk does not work. I take Prilosec, but once you have haertburn, it wont go away by taking the pill unless you take it about an hour before eating.

But Pizza, late drinking, and fast food (mexican) really hits me hard. I know its the tomatoes in pizza, not sure in the others....I need to eat about 3-4 hours before bed time.

By the way, joking about the PH UP unless it is safe and effective.......:spew:

You might be suffering from G.E.R.D. sounds very much like my life story, up to the point where it became unbearable...

Luckily this is onne area they catualy do have good, if slightly pricey meds, like Nexiam. Anything that doesn't stop can be killed off with an antacid tablet... (but otherwise don't use them, they go hand in hand with ulcers).

Some foods are worse than others, tomato is normaly OK as long as you don't have too much, caffein is bad news for your tummy, it casues alot of acid, so does smokeing tobaco, and I can suggest low fat milk.
Once you get your digestive system strong again, you can occasionally have the good milk.

I'm pretty good now, allthough I can only look at wine now...

Yes, Wine kills me instantly. I went to the doctor for a year, and they could not figure it out. My esophagus was normal with very little erosion. I was on Nexiam for a while, but dam its pricey. I never drink caffeine drinks unless its tea or decaf coffee. My wife is Mexican and cooks all the time. I can eat just about all the chiles and hot sauce if its made by her and never get heartburn. I just need to strenght my deit and gear it towards this.

Dewey... please don't drink your PH Up .... that just can't be good.

I have no idea why anyone would suggest vinegar as it is acidic and would just compound the problem.

The older I get, the harder it is for me to eat tomatoes or things with tomatoes in them (like pizza sauce), although I have no problem gobbling down hot peppers.... weird.

Anyway.... I love Alka Seltzer when I get heartburn. Plop Plop.... Fizz Fizz.... oh what a relief it is..... and FAST too! My father used to mix a teaspoon of baking soda with water and drink it..... Personally I can't stomach the taste of that so I'll just stick to my Alka Seltzer.

If you are looking for a cheap home remedy try the teaspoon of baking soda in a small glass of water. It should work just fine.... don't say I didn't warn you about the taste though ;)

One way I do love tomato is, thinly sliced, fresh with any greasy foods.. it jsut makes the oilyness dissapear.
Any fatty foods and even food with lots of air in can also lead to attacks...

You probably been a very bad boy for a while, I mean, if I behave for a few weeks with the diet, I can have just about anyhting and drink a 2L coke, but only for a few times...

THere are some generics available too for a bit cheaper... dind't quite do it for me... now that I'm good I don't even drink the nex every day, I can basicaly just pop 1 the moment I feel the burn comming on... took a good few months to get to that point... I even had a perfectly good wisdom tooth removed, thats how much discomfort I was haveing.... Medical aids are fucked up, I can not get nexiam on chronic meds unless I also suffer from a short list of other conditions like AIDS , TB some specific arthritic conditions etc... Gots ta get me some TB, its probably better to be on meds chronicaly when they say you should, and it actualy works.
