Has LED lost it's Cool?

I think that is a down to earth yield # of what most can expect to repeatedly produce
I myself am in the camp that a lot of these #'s are either straight up inflated or they are definitely counting stem and trim weight.
I have seen quite a few bigger grows in my area from people that have been doing it a long time and deep in the circles and none are claiming over 1g per watt
How big? What are they using, lights wise. What strains from what breeders? For example for me I account only for the light wattage and exhaust fan for an 8 week period and keep track of harvests and Talley that way. I run 9 very different strains. Ranging from plants than always produce some fairly large colas, to bushy and thick, to squat and solid, to lanky and only like little like ping pong ball sized nugs. If i ran only the chunky diesel, sweet tooth, and galaxy I could probably touch 2g/W maybe even potentially a little over. If i ran only Jamaican D, sour diesel both from cali connection stock or my unknown pixie dust probably couldn't surpass 1g/w. definitely couldn't if running only Jamaican d or pixie dust. If you ever look through some of my pics you can see that. Buds from forearm sized to another plant just having what looks like almost popcorn in comparison. LOL I chop down on average a qp every 10-14 days. Currently I think i have 18 in flower right now, 4x4. About to chop 2 or 3 and replace them tonight. all my stuff is coco(after trying multiple brands have settled for big city hydro)and either fabric pots or air pots still using both. Both are around only 2gal air pots just a little larger. out of the 3 others I personally know using leds only one has not broken the 1g barrier.

yes same amount of energy, 600 watts is 600 watts, also since leds produce more photons, more energy is converted via photosynthesis into fixing carbon which doesn't turn into heat until the plant material breaks down.so less heat released into the grow space.
The amount of energy that goes into fixing carbon chains is minuscule compared to the amount of 'waste' from the biological functions. The vast majority of the power radiated as light get's turned into heat as it goes through the electron transport chain. If it's not wasted outright as it bounces around the room or even off the plants itself. Any light that you are able to see is waste and thusc heat. It's not a 100% process by any means.

The advantage to LED's is that you are able to use less overall energy to produce a given photon density. If it took a 38% efficient 600w hps to produce 750 ppfd over a 4x4 canopy it would only take 350 watts to produce the same density using 64% efficient cree CXB3590's over the same space.Thereby reducing the overall heat load on the HVAC equipment by reducing the overall power displacement.

Obviously this is assuming ideal conditions with no reflector/lens/temp losses.

Agree that the amount of energy collected by photosynthesis is small, but its not miniscule, its on the order of 1 to 10%.

Any of you Cali guy's know anything about this guy. Legitimate or covert marketing like we saw with others like the hydrogrow, apollo and some of the others making false claims. Though personal experience just in my garden i don't find these numbers hard to believe for the led side. Done hid and cmh for years but never de. The second video with their results was interesting. I definitely see more phenotypic variance from a consistent genetic lineage due to spectral differences but anyone else got more info they could add to this. One thing that has me is that blue dream ratio. @Greengenes707 what do you think? I don't know much about blue dream or it's lineage and authenticity plagues like a lot of other cuts but I'd imagine there are multiple varying cuts out there. You buy that at all? Kinda on the fence since I see similar numbers from others but never grown it or used bml.

No, not for $2,399.00 - I can build an equally/more badass light for $700-800, so #idgaf about products like this. Looks ok, though, if you like Disco. I find it is harder to assess the health and diagnose problems of plants in a disco.

But, I do think the disco approach is the only way to fine tune and minimize wattage consumption.

Not what I was getting at. LOL Just if it is presumed that the info presented is accurate. I can no doubt build an equal or better performing unit. Was just tech comparison and results analysis.

Been using Canna coco for a while now. First round with LED was with AN sensi 2 part coco pH perfect(Only those two and bud candy, nothing else) with dutchmen coco. Probably the healthiest in appearance and easiest to use I've ever tried over the past 14 years. But kept getting told how much better canna was and it's pH perfect and better. Ehh i'm getting good results but I hoinestly don't feel that was true. Works but eh possibly over rated more than the people who scream AN is over rated. LOL (edit: If you're wondering "Why have you been using canna if you think an was better?". Only bought one litre of AN and lasted about 2 cycles almost. Maybe more like 1-1/2. But made the mistake of buying 5 gallons of canna.)

Here's some current pics. Ended up being wrong it was 4 I pulled today. A tiny pixie dust in the mix. So from top right to bottom left there is Sweet tooth, glass slipper, Sour Diesel, and the little itty bitty pixie at the bottom, Then a couple shots of the room. About to move 6 more in. I just pulled 6.2 ounces 2 weeks ago, then 3.8 before that, 4.6 before that, just varies by the way I rotate them through which is in constant flux.

My question to you would be - how often have you heard of a warehouse or other industrial building burning down due to all of the HID lights scattered throughout the building?
I think it is all about proper installation. I would bet that a 1000W HPS in a top brand hood with glass left in tact is safer than just about all of the DIY fixtures you are seeing on the forum.
OFTEN, as it happens! Turns out it's faulty wiring or ballasts causing the problem most of the time.

Something to keep in mind about LED vs HID lighting is that in many jurisdictions there is a prohibition against growing with HID lights indoors in multifamily units. This is true throughout Colorado, for instance. These COBs are the perfect workaround!

Working right now. But will up update my thread in a bit. The stuff i cut on the 2nd has final weights. Over the qp mark. Got what will probably be another 3 oz or so i cut down two days later and have one more i need to pull tonight. I'll tag you in that update @OneHitDone so you can check it out and the room in current status. Just now getting around to putting those other 6 in too. Oops. :/ lol
