Has anyone had luck finding a medical/rec job out of state?

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has had luck finding a job in a legal state from a different state.

Like many others, I'm trying to find work in California, Colorado, or Washington specifically but I live in the Midwest. Just wondering if anyone here has had success doing so and if they have any tips, leads, whatever.

I feel as though I am very qualified being a cultivator for years, but it's not like you can put that in a resume. This is my dream but it's looking pretty bleak at the moment.

Thanks for any input!

If those are the jobs you are targeting, then yes put that on your resume...
Without getting into too much detail, I just figured cultivating in a non legal state was not something to put on a resume. At the same time all my experience goes to waste otherwise so you're probably right.

Thanks a lot for the tip.

The first step towards getting a job in Colorado would be moving there, establishing residency and getting a badge. Do you have any felonies on your record?

yes when i was out in denver last year i had 2 offers from stores for jobs ....... alls i did was talk to them about the products and methods of growing ....u know talked to them and asked details on how they do theirs .....they ask u where u are from and what u do and just goes from there

if u really want a job in the field
1 learn as much as u can on your own
2 take any and all online federal standard certs (ethics all that stuff) ...they offer classes /schools for certs too in growing those are good
3 learn about the states rules and set up what u need to be legal in the state (normally live there for 30 days then apply for the card to work no felonies or any thing bad like that and u are good)

now if u have the time and money
keep detail records of what u are doing as in feed cost light power and over all returns ......this is your skill base
if u can store and cure some of your best work and then send it out for lab testing getting the results for your files ....ideal u want to get a well know strain and then push it pass the know best for it (higher THC and CBDs then what strain is listed for) repeat that on several strains

at that point u could be called a master grower with yield maxed out and the chemicals it producing pushed beyond recorded records

No felonies! Eventually when I save enough to support myself and my gal this will be my route. If I were to find a job before moving that'd be even better. Thanks for the advice!

Very thorough answer, thank you for that. From the research I've done it seems this will probably have to be my route.

Thanks for your guidance.

np man

i plan to go out there too ........so if a amish looking guy comes in and applies put a good word in for me

oh and to help u little more ......keep all your records and notes/photos/lab reports on a flash drive that way it is your resume (just hide it and if u need to keep a 2nd copy store it off site in a ftp or in the cloud ) safe copy so u do not lose all the work

now if u are selling to offset the learning cost .........do not keep records of that (if u really start making profit turn the cash into silver ingots ........it cleans the money protects it and is a investment so u earn returns for waiting selling when price is higher)

Move to Colorado. Get your card to work in whatever area of marijuana you want. There are so many grow/Retail options here. Will have a commercial grow license by end of fall God willing. Beautiful place to call Home

Been told a bunch that it's real saturated in COL market wise/jobs wise. Plan is to start somewhere and then get a commercial growing license as you are. Don't wanna gamble on heading out there if it's a mistake but if I at least get some learning experience in a legal grow and network I'd consider it a success prior to starting my own operation. Possibly in a state just starting out if I feel COL is too crowded.

I'm 25, soon to be 26 so I feel the times ticking ya know. I'm pretty damn determined to make my dream happened though and the whole money part is what I'm more worried about than anything.

I appreciate you're input. I don't have connections in the industry yet so it's nice to hear from people a few steps ahead of me .

Good luck on your journey friend.

Colorado is #1 in world for Marijuana, in 5 years if you have a business now, We are setting the new standards in MMJ & RMJ. Hospitals here are starting to use Marijuana as treatment. Don't wait too long lol.

Yes this is why I think right now is the last chance to jump aboard the Colorado train. Only thing holding me back is funding. If you don't mind discussing (in general of course) financials, I assume one must find investors somewhere to get the capital to begin? If you don't have the money laying around of course.

I have a little saved and plan on getting a second job that'll go directly to my savings. Also I have good credit so once I get my feet in I plan on maxing my debt out to the fullest as sad as that is. Seems like this is what it takes with a lot of people starting in the industry.

Its $$ to do your own Marijuana business, But $4000 to get a license to grow commercially and sell to the hundreds of Mmj and Recreational stores. The profits from one harvest put you in the positive $
People from all areas want in on this here. There are places to get financing for the Marijuana industry. Working on that myself. Its truly amazing here :~}

When everyone jumps on the gravy train it eventually grounds to a halt......

You'd be better off going to a state were it's only just been made state legal, or is in the process of doing so within the next year or so. Better chance of a job then, plus gives you time to save the cash to move.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's not like I'm trying to cash in on the "green rush" just truly love cultivation and if I can do it for a living it can't think of anything better. Think that's the best route though honestly.

Thinking I'll keep an eye out on the states and their voting. 2016 is supposed to be huge.

Just feel that the West is where it's at in terms of invaluable learning experience and an entirely different culture that's already light years ahead of the conservative states I live around. California would be ideal if it weren't so expensive.

After watching high profits, i almost fell on the floor when they said they paid the employess 12 bux an hour. Doesnt seem worth the time an effort unless your a business owner. Maybe I am missing something. The guy half of the equasion also has two felonies as well.

I tried. Took a few interviews in Colorado. It was a bunch of douche bags wit money and no knowledge of the business. I went to a "grow warehouse" that was over 100,000 sq ft and these dudes has no rooms, no airconditioners just a ton of vertical bare bulb 400s. Told them they need to invest in proper equipment, they didn't wanna hear that so I didn't get the job.

Id rather go to Northern California at this point. Do some outdoor and some indoor. Don't have to deal wit the extreme cold of Colorado

Interesting! I actually am a caregiver in a med state and Northern California is one of my prime targets. After all the research I've done my current thinking is just to get there, grow - sell to dispensaries and maybe try to circle the grey area that is a delivery business. Breeding and starting a seedbank is also in the cards hopefully. One thing at a time though. I would certainly prioritize getting meds to patients who are in need. This is why I'm a caregiver in the first place, my girlfriend and I are very passionate about educating and helping those who can't grow for themselves and suffer from health issues. Obviously it'd be nice to make a decent living too.

Other than Humboldt, anywhere you'd recommend in the north? I have buddies in San Diego but the mountains and greenery more so suit my lifestyle where you're at.
