Ripe seeds are viable the moment they fall or are pulled off the tree (plant).... Putting them in the fridge may not have been the best idea. It's recomended to store seeds in a dark cool place but the fridge may be to cold....

Sorry, I should have been more specific. You can germ and plant yur seeds now, you could have done this as soon as you "harvested" them. Good luck man...

True some seeds will germ right off of the plant, but saying that your germinSation rate will be much better if you allow them to dry and give them a dose of cold. Just think of it as nature's way, when seeds make in the wild they overwinter until spring.
So yes they might grow but waiting like you did and putting in the fridge for a time will increase your germrate.

I disagree canefan....I beleive winter is natures way of weeding out the weaker seedlings, but you will have a better rate of germination if they are harvested and stored properly, ...with this being said, will the better germination rates lead to weaker quality in the seedlings??????

Ok in response why would the healthiest and strongest seeds sprout in nature fresh off of the plant when they would be doomed to die? Nature builds into itself a defense against this or all the seeds would sprout as soon as they fell off of the plant. The result would be an plant species which died off in a couple of generations.
By all means crack your beans whenever you see fit. Just for shits and giggles take some of your seeds right off of the plant and germ them, then take the same number, dry them for a week or two and place into the fridge before germing. I believe the difference will be quite evident. I have done this and I will keep drying and storing before use.
