and OBVIOUSLY if OP is using CFL he probs doesnt have the $$ for like a $700 LED.:eyesmoke:
I said nothing about LEDs. I'm all about HIDs. Ballast, 2 bulbs and a shade for a 400, $125 on E-Bay everyday.

Way too much money yet for an LED that will yield as much and as well as a cheap HPS bulb and I don't buy the cheap bulbs. COB is looking better than LED so I'll hang in and see how that goes before tossing out my magnetics and re-mortgaging my house to get the equivalent grow power in new tech.

Early adopters can toss away their cash if they want. I wonder how many crappy LEDs are gathering dust in corners somewhere because they grew crap. :)

:peace:

if you get the right ones i think you can get comparable results out of slightly less wattage with a smaller cooling bill. as soon as i can afford it i'm sure going to try. i'm planning on starting off with a 300 watt cob array and running it against the 600 hps and seeing what i get. i don't expect 300 watts of cob to equal 600 watts of hps, but i'm expecting it will be at least the equal of a 400-450, and will need less cooling
i'm hoping 400 watts of cobs in a good array will equal a 600, we'll see, eventually
If you go to the high end of COBs which is the Cree 3590's they're out-producing my CMH which was getting in the 1-1.3 gpw with mixed strains/phenos and pheno hunts. If you were growing for weight with decent producing clones 1.5 is easy in soil.

They're an up-front and longer investment but numbers don't lie, instead of paying your electric provider you're paying off the COBs. If you look at the depreciation of the investment over xx months, you pay them off instead of paying your provider. Or, if you have the space you match the wattage and gain in output. Either way they pay for themselves quick. 400w of 3590's will match a 600 and produce better quality. My long running phenos were like flowering a new strain under them, huge bump in terps. Good penetration & nice solid buds all the way down, no worries there. Lots of grows in the LED section using these.

Thanks. I really have to look into this topic. especially useful in the summer time.
I have the means to change over to cob but I need to research for myself.
go over to the led section and check out the results some of the cob users are getting. pretty damn impressive.

this guy is getting awesome results. hes got 2k+ watts going, but his area is 4 times the size of mine....
and he seems to be having very minimal heat issues

this guy is kicking ass as well
Thanks for the links.

Im in the US and wtf is blurple?? If I had the money I wouldn't be using cfls or should say at least not just cfls I wanna get 1 or 2 hydromars 300w or 1 hydromars 600w and use a couple cfls to hang straight down between or outside along the walls Would the hydromars leds be considered blurple??.. but this Cob stuff u guys are speaking of what is it exactly and how do they compare to hid and leds in detail please I'm clueless to what it is.. also I'm worried about the heat due to not wanting to deal with that bs lol like my freedom I'm aimming for great dense nuggs worth my electric bill if not get more for less money I'm not greedy to now spend to get great results I'm just jobless and have no money but that will change but I'm adding to my box and getting money and taking notes because ofc I'm going to do it now if not asap

My issue with hid is the heat being scared of the flying pigs in the sky at least till I get my card hopefully sooner then later but if u guys all could follow my grow and also my thread on advancing my box I would love and appreciate the help alot!! Also because my phone is broke and slow so it's a bitch and a pain to upload pics and even type

blue/red led panels are blurple, they're usually cheap crap.
https://420kushclean.com/light-spectrum/
those are the useful ranges. any light you buy that doesn't produce most if not all of that is cheap crap.

thats the cheapest light i would recommend. it covers all of the important bandwidths of light. i bought one cheap a while back to use as supplementary lighting and its actually working pretty well. not advertising, just my personal experience.
it says its a 450...but it actually draws 195 watts, something else to watch for in their info, they always say "same as a 1k watt hid"....no, its whatever it really is. the next big thing to look for is the size of the diodes used. get at least 3 watt diodes, anything smaller doesn't penetrate the canopy worth a shit. 5s are better.

Those fucking hydromars ARE "BLURPLE" LED's! Cheap LED's are NOT worth the money!

I also said that GPW is NO measure of growing anything!

You guys talk of .25 and getting 1.5 under that.......That's ALL meaningless! Why? A smart grower and SOG can simply destroy GPW yields. Just over 3 and near 4 are actually rather easy......strain, dial in, and light strength = GPW numbers that make any 1.5 look sick..... NO other method can touch SOG returns........Now then. How many of you can manage 64 plants in a 4x4 space? Plant limits? Get them within 1.5 inch's in height of each other at the flip? Find the 64 particular 1 gallon pots to use?
Approx yield of 2240grm
Under a 600
Comes out to
3.73 grams per watt.
Very possible!

Get it now? GPW is meaningless!

CFL's are meaningless and cheap LED's are right behind them. You will get a better grow out of one. But for the money you spend on it - HID kills them DEAD! For the money you save in electricity in running them, The better spectral response, and not running near as much AC to counter HID heat output......COB LED's destroy HID...

Why spend money to "settle" for something your going to down the road, replace to get something better? Save the coins and buy smart.....Go right to HID or COB for that matter, and leave the toy's to kiddie's...

I'm stuck in 1K's for a cpl a years yet. Today it's COB's and LED tech changes fast...When I'm ready, it's going to be whatever the "BEST" new LED tech is at that time.....It's always "coulda, woulda, shoulda"......Don't get stuck in that! Start at the top and be happy!

I'm confused alittle bit so what area xxx-xxx is optimal for growing cannabis and when u say 3w or 5w u mean each chip correct??

I understand money is tight atm but always willing to spend what I need to without killing myself when I can get similar results for way lower price.. I totally would prefer to spend money once not more then that lol.. One of the main reasons I like led is dont have to worry bout the piggys in the sky comin and kickin my door in.. But I would love to have hid that being said i have a box im using temporarily to get the feel of growing and what not then ima build a stealth box or get a tent to actually keep for years.. That being said the temp box is 4x2x6 when I make my stealth box or tent im thinking 3x3 or so im just aiming to grow just a few plants for now until later in life so I would think maybe 2-4 plants but probably more like 2 plants but get amazing yields off them so if even a tent or box smaller then 3x3x? could do so please let me know.. Also the items I buy id prefer for them to work perfect/best with the tent or box in the future that will be my legit one I keep so if its not perfect for this current one that's fine as long as im getting results to be able to learn and feel and of course get used to everything.. Like I said as long as its optimal in a 3x3x? Or smaller for 2-4 plants please let me know aim me in that direction please the gpw thing I just happened to stumble by this thread and was curious and figured there was no true metric just an estimate but ofc estimate could be more or less due to what goes on during and what is done while growing I understand that.

It's unlawful in the USA for the cops to use flir on your house without a warrant.
I THINK you might be worried about it a bit too much. I don't know if you want to say what state you're in??
I haven't researched led yet but it seems that to do it right you will have to spend some bucks. if it comes down to CFL vs hid then you should do hid and get a decent yield so you can have cash to reinvest.

Also in NM.. Okay so if its hid over led then what would be best for my situation? Currently using a temp box which ima replace asap but its 4x2x6 but gonna replace it with a 3x3x? If not maybe smaller for 2-4 plants probably just 2 plants but haven't decided yet if im going to replace it with a Tent or stealth box so I wanna get stuff thats will be optimal if not best for the 3x3x? Or smaller But ofc use it in the current box for now
