Yea I was wondering the same thing I also changed from hydro to organic. I noticed my branches were splitting under the weight. I recently started using super soil, have any of you noticed any weakness in the branches.

Horsetail?

View attachment 2346763

Do I make tea? Always looking for better/natural (cheap?:)) sources of grow material...
Thats the one! compost it, make a tea, topdress/mulch, personally I like to add as an amendment to the soil mix, slow release over time, 1 cup per 1cuF or so, or whenever i have it. Some info from around the net:

Horsetail contains high concentrations of silicic acid and other silicates. Horsetail also contains potassium, aluminum, and manganese, along with variety of flavonoids

The silicon content of the horsetail is the highest in the entire plant empire, and no other herb comes even near to the silica levels found in the plant

Cheers! I'm going to try it in my next soil mix, and maybe make some tea for the ladies in the flower room...

I noticed you said "silicone", not "silica" as was discussed. There is nothing natural about Silicone adhesive. Often people will use it to hold airstones in place or tubing, but an organic alternative is to sandpaper the surface and use hot beeswax. It holds tight and it's chemical free but it does take a bit longer. I use it in my organic DWC.

Here's the stuff

Potassium Silicate 6%

Thanks for the bees wax tip, I've been using aquarium grade silicone glue up 'till now, and just happen to have some wax about anyway...

(Edit; What are the odds there is someone out there chasing wild horses, and stealing glass from the bottle bank? ;))

That's interesting I'm going to look into the horse tail. Is it used for the purpose of adding cilica,is it packaged or would I have to go to a swamp and get it myself.

When I can't get botanicals locally, like the horsetail, I order from mountainroseherb online, lots of great stuff, and bulk discounts on dried herbs. I use it for the slow release of silica (silicic acid), and a little potassium and manganese to boot!
