Growing Weed with Mama

Very impressive, MjMama. Glad to have you aboard. I'm an organic outdoor grower as well. Problem is, I'm stuck up here right next to the Adirondacks and we're still getting frost at night.

I'd love to be out there with you. I'm really handy to have around the house, I don't eat much and I do windows every other weekend ........... Once again, glad to have you here and "Thank You" for sharing with us. Yours truly ..... Frosted in NY. (:
Thanks! Im definitely blessed to have such a long grow season here. The main challenges I face are pests, and the drought. The pests are insane in California, partly because we don't get the freezing winters to knock them back, and then we have such a huge concentration of growers, passing the pest problems around. It seems like everyone is battling russets and broad mites this last couple of seasons. Im paranoid, spraying constantly.

I have a few tricks up my sleeve for the drought.I buried lots of dead wood in my raised beds to help retain water. Then I also planted clover as a cover crop and spread mulch. Anything I can do to save water so the growers don't get blamed for using it all.

That's insane! I live right downtown in my city, surrounded by apartments and businesses, so I try to keep a low profile. I train them through tomato cages. Once the plants get about 4-5 ft tall I slap a screen across the top and start training them outward so they don't get too tall. Even then it's hard to keep them down! I would love to be able to go wild for just one season with the type of space some growers have. I'm just a personal backyard grower, trying to make the best of what I have. I started most of my plants indoors like your friend in March/April. But a few started straight outside like the Headband and Spaceballs.
Nice, I'm also a middle of town growerm

Will do. I might just surprise you and read the whole thing. I could use a good read. You sound like someone who would appreciate Old Pork's personality. He's an old grow friend that just joined here too. Always good laughs in his grows. I'm sure we will all get along great.

Is that SpaceBalls clone only?
It's a new strain bred by a friend named Hillbilly. I've been test growing a couple strains for him and so far Ive been very pleased. I'm not sure if he plans on going public or if he just wants to stay a personal breeder, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of his strains go big if he lets them.

Welcome aboard! It looks like you nabbed a front row seat. ;) I hope I can put on a good show this year. We almost lost the rights to grow here in Placer County, but luckily the community stood together and opposed the ban. I was so relieved when only 1 member of the Board of Supervisors voted for the ban. Even the local sheriff seemed to be on our side. :) Thank goodness, because I would be a wreck without my meds. I suffer from a nausea and vomiting condition. Mmj is the only thing that helps.
Placer county?
Us outdoor growers (all are invited) have 2 BBQ's about 30 minutes north of Lincoln every year (Camp far west).
"After the harvest BBQ", usually held the 2nd weekend in December.
"Spring 4/20 BBQ" Held the weekend closest to 4/20.
I hope top see you there this December and next April.

There is a pretty big group of cali growers here. Keep reading the outdoors section and im sure youll find us all, or we'll find you here. Good support system built up here!
I was right in the middle of the city a few years ago. Was kinda fun but moved to the country. About an hour and a half south of you.

Thats Hot!
I'm glad you like it. Organics is very forgiving. A little of this, a little of that. Make it your own. :)

I'd kill for a place in the country. We almost have this place paid off, so who knows what the future holds. We had an incident with rippers 2 seasons ago and it wasn't pretty. They came back 3 times trying for our stash, 3rd time with a riffle. Luckily we live close to the police station and the punks ended up doing a year in jail for attempted armed robbery. It gets scarier every year, the more news spreads about my grow. Then having the whole story in the newspaper just made it worse!

nuggs posted a thread on mites here in the outdoor section and there is a wealth of information in it.. You should check it out when you get a moment.
I've been lurking in there a bit. Still trying to catch up.

I just got a nice microscope that hooks up to my computer and installed the software last night. Now I can get a good close up of what is or hopefully ISN'T on my plants. Fingers crossed. The only thing that worries me is a couple clones that Ive brought in from outside sources. I should really just stick to growing from seed for that reason.

I promised some pics this morning.

Alien OG is one of my favorites.

Holy Grail Kush is another one I really liked in my test runs. Nice pungent funky flavor.

Ken's GDP started throwing a lot of pistils when I moved her outdoors. Im hoping she'll pull through, but if she hasn't bounced back to full veg in a week or two, I'll just make a frame over her and light dep her out.

My SpaceBalls babies. Most of my stuff is from clone or fem seeds, but these are from reg seeds and not sexed yet. Fingers crossed for at least one healthy female.

Ha! Um yes. Im super super hot... j/k

I wish I could claim that the Mama in my name stood for "hot mama", but in reality it stands for the type of mom who has had 3 kids. I'm proud of that so it's all good. This is me. The most badass weed growing soccer mom you've ever met. :bigjoint:

Was that you speaking at the board of supervisors meeting about the ban?

I'm stubbed for your grow. We live close to each other I think.
I didn't speak at the meeting but I did contact the Board of supervisors via email a couple of days before the vote so they had time to ponder my points.

This is the first message I sent them.

"I am aware that a possible ban on outdoor medical marijuana cultivation is being considered. I expect that you will do the right thing and uphold the rights of our local citizens to grow a plant that helps our health. Choosing otherwise would segregate a huge portion of your potential voters, but more importantly it could have a huge impact on the lives of myself and many others.

First off, outdoor cultivation is 100% safe and doesn't require any electricity or dangerous lighting setups. I personal dont want to grow my plants inside my home where my children live, and have the risk of fire from hot lights. It's much safer to have an outdoor garden.

Marijuana plants are 100% safe and non toxic. Much safer than a tomato plant even, which can make children or pets sick if they eat tomato leaves or stems.

There is also the financial impact this ban would have on the county. Many medical patients would be forced to move to other counties or states that respect our need for this beneficial plant. Leaving many vacant homes and driving down property values.

It may smell funny to some people, but I think tarring a roof smells worse. Im sure you wouldn't shut down a construction site because of the smell. And you wouldn't shut down car dealerships because they fell victim to theft. Please don't hold these things against medical marijuana patients. For me and many others, our right to cultivate is life or death, and worth protecting. Please do the right thing and stand by your voters needs. Thank you.

Sincerely, a registered voter of placer county."
