I didn't do much defoliation/cutting shoots on my last run, so I eager to see how it affects those colas above the net. Although I did like plucking those popcorn buds from time to time. :D
I've seen some heavy defoliating, were a grower would cut off basically nearly 80% of the fan leaves, leaving just the buds and suger leaves. A few days later the buds would plump up, so that's definitely on my to do list.

Thanks mate, I really on't know what to expect, but I'm betting I'll get more than 20g haha.

That what just me thinking out loud, I'll skip for this grow, but I do have a small 2W air pump lying around somewhere, so I'll add that one.
I have been given a bit of stick before for defoliating heavily and suggested it to somebody as a solution to their problems and they nearly bit my head off lol they got reyt face on! Why would I do that when I have put so much time blah blah blah......
They also wondered why they had the same light as me and couldn't yield half as much haha
I defoliated the Hash Bomb pretty much that way, I removed nearly all fan leaves bar a few. And all the buds were nice and solid off that plant, and she was a big fucker, even the buds that were at the bottom, a couple of feet away from the lamp were nice and solid.
20g? I think you will be looking more like 200g mate.

Had a defoliation session today. I've always shyed away from cutting off growth because of my little experience, I have no sixth sense and don't know what can or cannot be done. Time to change that! Older, lower leaves that weren't getting any light got the chop off of the main stem. The fan leaves attached to the shoots were left alone. I also spent a good half an hour just rearranging stems and branches to make sure everything is spread out as much as possible.

Only some of the most oldest shoot are just reaching the net, whilst the younglings have a lot to go. I'm betting that once it starts stretching everything will reach the net. What doesn't is getting the chop.

LADS, WE GIVE NO QUARTER!

The pictures are a complete mish mash, but they are generally before/after type.

As much as I hate the constant bleeding money I could save, I'm thinking of buying a better air pump. The one I have is fantastic for early veg, but the root mass is just crazy and there's more roots than water!
I'm thinking of an air compressor, something savage like 4200l/hour that can be used in later stages of growth.
Wow cool she's looking really vital and you definitely didn't take off too much there :D
Reeeaaally curious to see how much she actually stretches now!!

As for radical defoliation -- I did some of that with my scrog towards the end of veg, and it was good to in my situation. Not good enough for me to start preaching it and keeping my girls pretty much naked throughout the grow haha!

Wow, I haven't updated here in some time...

But not to worry, nothing much has happened, I'm still waiting for my Pythoff which should be in 5 days time (then I won't have to be shitting bricks anymore hopefully). The stretch I think is slowly coming to a hault, so I'm letting the shoots shoot up now, the canopy is more or less even, but there are still a few laggers behind... can't wait for everyone I suppose.

Here are some comparison pictures, I did some heavy defoiliating a few days ago, but no no, she's having none of that now. I don't think she even gave a fuck, it's like everything went back to normal.

I just noticed that the first two pictures are 2 days apart.

WP_20160404_006.jpg WP_20160406_003.jpg WP_20160409_003.jpg and I'll have the current one in a jiffy.

We also had a weeks blast of that long awaited warm spring air and the temperatures in the reservoir were about 20C for three days. :0 It was stressing the shit out of me, but luckly nothing happened.

I did some extensive reading on some reservoir chilling methods and found all sorts of ingenious methods:

-chillers (waaaaaay out of my price range for the time being, but it is an absolute MUST during the summer),
-coil cooling like here ---> http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-wort-chiller-for-homebrewing/ a much cheaper (and fun) alternative to chillers, but don't work as efficiently.
-or this interesting method using a fridge, but generally works on the same principle as the coil method --->
-using a beer cooler for your reservoir... bloody great idea that is, well insulated since it's purpose is to keep the cold in, so I've decided to get one for my next run,
-insulating the whole reservoir with mylar/aluminium tape etc. now I did that and have already noted a 2dC drop in T AND the T are a very stable 17C and have been for a few days (I purposely heated the room up for a while), I didn't think that the black bucket would absorb THAT much heat.

I also figured out that since air is being pumped into the water, thus heating it, I could try to pump in cold air. I stuck my air pump into a beer chiller and filled it with ice packs... but that didn't help at all, I have no idea why. And it was 13C in there. Oh well.

Gosh she's looking lush -- and hasn't stretched that much to be a problem either
Way to go! :D

As for the air not cooling the water, hmmm intriguing, there must be a nice physics explanation for that, my head can't wrap around it at the mo tho

I was surprised to see it all in tact really, I thought I was going to run out of space. The shoots haven't moved for a few days, so it's safe to say it's the end of the stretch. :D

Now just another 1 month and 15 days till the end... (hopefully). Can't wait to try out some samples. :D

How's your grow coming along calliandra? Started flowering yet?

Last summer I had high temperatures in the reservoir, I just chucked a couple of ice packs in, it worked as a temporary solution, and I was around for most of the grow so it wasn't really a pain in arse. Last time round I just covered the lid with Orca, then this time I've got the white bucket . My res thermometer has packed in but temperatures seem fine. That defender stuff I treated her with also supposedly guards the roots against high temps as well.
Looking very good mate, very nice and healthy!

Yeah, ice packs/frozen bottles do the job with our single unit DWC tubs, it's not like we're recirculating 6 or more reservoirs worth of water! I'll be changing the buckets on my next run, and I'll get a white one as well and maybe install a drain valve for easier changes. But that'll be in October unfortunately. :(

Glad to here that the Defender is defending. :D Are you thinking of adding any bennies next run, or are the two incompatible?

I myself just got in the mail yesterday a bottle of that long awaited Pythoff!! I've just returned from changing the reservoir water and adding some of the stuff. I swear that every time I open the bottle the smell of chlorine reminds me of the swimming pools I used to go to when I was a kid. :D

Cheers mate, she is looking good I can say that and the buds have all leveled out (well mostly), and I can already see that characteristic bud shape forming. Great times are coming. I'm also surprised that the H202 did it's job perfectly, but now I hope to really relax until harvest... which could've been in two more bloody weeks had I not fucked up this grow... oh well, next time it'll be a walk in the park. :D

I've got to be honest, I found res changes easier with my old bucket! This is bigger and harder to handle, and the cables are sort of secured to the bucket so I cant just chuck the pump and airstones out and carry it to wherever i'm going to dump the water, there seems a lot more pissing about with this.
From what I have read I don't need to use anything else from here, it is supposed to be the best prevention, the plant is now safe and secure from pythium and all the other nasty bastards that DWC likes to offer.
Watch though, I'll end up getting the worst root rot known to man, it'll be like full blown Aids, African style. It's just my luck.
You haven't fucked up mate, everything looks dandy. If owt you may have increased yield? Time will tell any road. Good luck!

Yep they're flowering, but are also suffering a bit from lack of attention as I've been busy with other stuff. But they'll come through ;)

Sorry for not getting back earlier. Haha I lol'ed at full bown Aids. :D But I feel you, I'll probably get some kind of, H202, Chloramine, resistant pythrium strain.

Yeah I'm really intersted as to what will be the outcome, it's looking good so far, although I could of done the Scrog a bit better, it's more of a skeletal support at best now.

ALSO MY 1000th POST. :hump: :dunce: :bigjoint: :eyesmoke::hump: wooooowee.

Happy 1000th post! Heres to another 1000 with a lot of bud in between!
I felt the same with my SCROG last time, I don't think it was a true SCROG but it was a fair attempt and learnt a lot from it. I don't think any grow we do will be perfect, I think there will always be something we had wished we had done differently. I think the only way we will achieve perfection is running the same strain over and over again and knowing exactly what to expect from it and what it likes best. But wheres the fun in doing the same strain when there is so much choice out there?!

Cheers Stick, same goes to you. :D I hope you beat your last score in this round.

Every new grow brings us closer to perfection, next round will be better then the last one and so on. I should start writing down my observations so I don't make the same mistakes like last time.

Of course, so much to choose from, so I can't die yet I have another 9999+ strains to try out! Although it would be nice to create your own strain and stick with it. :D A nice creative and energetic high, with short flowering time and slightly compact nodes.. NICE.

I would call him... Tim.

Hi guys, little update on the flwoer structure. It's been around one month since I flipped WOOO. So I HOPE this is the halfway line and in a month I'll be able to raid those pretty flowers... alhough the buds are a bit small, so either they start bulking up soon or I'll have to wait longer.

I'm managing to keep the humidity at 40-50% so at least that's good news.

I also did a little bit of spring cleaning, it was filthy in there! Thankfully this is an ikea wardrobe, so I was able to lower the chamber easily to allow more breathing space between the canopy and the lights.

Next time when I do a scrog grow I won't be so soft and I'll make sure to chop everything that's not worthy.

Looking excellent mate, looks so healthy, well done!
I need to give my tent a good clean, theres dead leaves on the floor and water stains! Its loppy. But the light comes on at 10 at night and goes off at 10 in a morning. So can't be arsed to be doing owt at that time of night, most of time in bed by then, and then in a morning I leave early so only leave enough time to get showered and ready and piss off to work. Then on a weekend can I be arsed to get up after a good few drinks the night before? Can I fuck. lol
I used to love lights on during the day, used to be able to spend so much time with the plant and make sure everything is perfect and everything is spotless.
Maybe I'm just being lazy.
I appear to be rambling, anyway, well done, carry on!

Ah they'll come along for sure, given your plant is stroppingly healthy!

Hey dude I was wondering how your outtake fan is doing? I'm thinking about purchasing a small cabinet about 4 ft tall and over 2 feet wide, and getting a 4inch fan seems like it'd be over kill. How is your's working? does it effect the humidity, negative pressure? i'm also going to be using an LED light.
