Growing and trying shrooms for the first time.

I realize there are probably multiple threads like this but I would like some personal help through this journey rather then reading someone elses. I've been pretty anxious to try shrooms for about two years, haven't managed to get my hands on any and it just seems more logical to grow them myself. So I'm contemplating ordering some spores from sporeworks but I'm not entirely sure what to do after that I'm gonna have to do quite a bit of research I assume so any insight nd knowledge on the subject is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you dont know what to do with the spores after you get them dont even bother trying to grow them, setting yourself up for failure. Check out the college bars, ask some hipsters, cabbies, hippies. They will hook you up, especially cabbies.

Do lots and lots and lots and lots of research.... most important thing is keeping your shit sterile, the mycelium (that actual fungus, the mushroom is the fruit) is extremely susceptible to infection and disease.

Just look through here on this forum, theres plenty of mushroom cultivation talk, you can probably pick up a few things from there

Well ya obviously I'm not just gunna order them then guess how to grow them but I rather order them now so when I'm done researching they will be ready, can the spores expire or something? Nd ya I heard that they are easily contaminated, but thanks. Any other knowledge would be helpful. Eventually I'm gunna post a first time trip report on this thread.

Check out Shroomery.org. That website will give you all the info you need plus more. Ive never grown mushrooms myself personally because well, im just not the cleanest person i could be :P.

Theres tons and tons of info out there, search around. You wont find everything under one roof...

That being said... Im not sure if they can "expire". Im sure they have a shelf life though that you would want to use them before that runs up. It really depends how you get your spores.. you could get a spore print on paper or you could get it in a syringe. syringe i would imagine would be safer bet for storage, could be wrong though.

I would do all your research before you invest in anything. You could order your spores then find out later that youre not going to be able to cultivate for whatever reason, then youd be stuck with spores and nothing to do with them :(

cubes are cubes...they all grow the same way...read @ the shroomery.com until your eyes bleed....then read more...memorize the tek you want to use and keep things sterile...;))

They do not all grow the same way, some are more agressive, some are less, some have a penchant for pins, some do not. I have several times posted the easiest way to grow them on this site.

I want to try growing my own as well...I have all the stuff together, but haven't gotten the spores yet...
not to hijack, but the innoculation part is what needs to be uber clean yes? So once the jars have been prepared and the spores added can I now just put the jars anywhere, like a dusty shelf? or will that cause some tropical mold that will kill me...I am going to a clean place for the innoculation, but after that it is your averagely dirty house...

I have heard that b+ is the best one..but again this is what I hear, not what I have tried myself...so could be totally wrong...

the one you are talking about is said to be very forgiving. You will have a decent amount of resistance to contamination only after full colonization, and then you will have a limited time of purity.

Yeah I heard b+ is the best to grow not sure if it's true tho. I actually found an old friend who says he can get me some fungus probably sometime this week. Me and my friend are planning on eating an eighth each. Should I start with a gram then slowly progress? Also what would be a good setting to take them, how about a hotel room?

If you want a good strain stick with cambodians. they are forgiving! they are a great strain to learn mushroom cultivation with... like its been said many times sterility is the key! but if you want a powerhouse strain that is ultra potent and is a fairly high yielder (i think anyways) go with Penis Envy. Not sure how easy they are and they dont drop spores... so you have to get some live mycelium to innoculate your substrate. i think anways... penis envy is one of my favorite strains.. a gram is all it takes!

edit: that video is awesome, lot of good info... but they show a lot of over matured mushrooms which you dont want, same thing as over maturing your pot. just harvest before they caps open.

What is a 4 spore basidia? Also is psilocybe cubensis b+ a good strain or is a+ better
never herd of a 4 spore basidia is a basidiomycota is the phylum fungi which includes mushrooms and other fruiting bodies that produce spores called basidiospores

Get a PRESSURE COOKER, research PF TEK (beginners best friend), build a GLOVE BOX and a FRUITING CHAMBER. These are the things you need to research YOURSELF with the above mentioned resources provided by helpful members. If you can't do that, don't worry about which spores to order. If you can do that you will have a good idea by then which ones are interesting to you and what questions you really need to ask. Cubes are cubes but they aren't!

I suppose you and I will never agree on shrooms...simply because you know it all and the rest of us are fools...

I have no idea if we will agree ever, I know that there are hundreds of "right" ways to grow them, that is because they are so forgiving, especially compared to other varieties. I know furthermore, that myths start all the time about these things and I try my best to correct them. I don't know it all but I do know that the very first time I grew them was in 1976.

That is a long time ago. Props to the pioneers! Do you still take them now? Just curious. I spent a long time not taking shrooms and when I did, I felt so ripped off. Not from the shrooms but for all the years I could have been enjoying them instead of trying a heap of other junk. I'm not young but not that old and from my now educated perspective I see myself enjoying the fruit of the gods for years to come!

Good. That's all I want for myself really, some nice smoko and the odd shroom night. There are and will be the occasional exception, a few other entheogenic friends, but my family drinks into their 90's and I don't drink and have found mushies to be a more rewarding way to fulfill that human need to let go so I had high hopes of using them sparingly for a long time to come!
