Hi everyone,

Looking to buy a grow tent but couldn't find much info on the forums. Thought it might be useful to start a thread on this topic for anyone willing to write down or upload whatever comes to mind that might help new buyers. Topics can include;

- Brand manufacturers.
- What to look out for i.e. zip, light penetration, thickness etc.
- What size for your purpose, is your tent too big or too small.
- Reflection %, Mylar or other.
- How many extraction points needed.
- Price comparisons & customer service.
- Weight & durability.
- Ease of assembly & dismantling.
- Why you love or hate your tent.
- Anything else you can think of.

Thanks

I'm on my first grow, I have a 3x3x6 (1.2x1.2x2.1) and it's too small for me. Not that I want more room to grow (I sure in the hell need it though atm) but I have the room for a bigger tent and I personally would find it easier to care for my plants if I were able to be inside my tent, zip it up behind me etc. My tent has 7 extraction points, then the passive velcro vents.

how many plants do you grow in that space...im curious cause Im thinking about the same space roughly or just enough for 4 good sized plants. Would be nice to simply walk in the grow room, into another dimension & do your stuff, I agree ;) 7 extraction points seems excessive though, do the 'flaps' on the inside not take up much space? ive seen similar sizes with up to three extraction points unless your including all the holes for cables & air intake. Hope your first grow is coming along nicely.

this is one model im looking at, either 80x80x180cm (170euro) or 100x100x200cm (210euro)...made by Homebox & Growlab together I think. Looks pretty good & weighs in at 10kg & 15kg. Diamond mylar 97% reflect & 5 extraction cuffs, why so many? There are cheaper one's out there so not sure if should spend the extra bucks? ...let us all grow & love Mary J 8-)

Go for a good one. The cheap ones will fail you. Zippers will break and light will leak in if your lucky, your entire tent will colapse under the weight of a single light and filter if your not(this has happend to TONS of ebay tent users, lol)

Spend the exta $, it's worth it. You don't need to go top of the line, but don't buy the cheapest either.

Multiple access points/duct ports are a plus too-can't have too many IMO.

You could do 4 in a 3x3. I do 6 in 4 gals on a 3x3 table in a 4x4 tent. That being said, it's crowded wall to wall-no going in and zipping up behind me : ) 4 plants in a 3x3 would be the same-wall to wall but doable. I think 4 is a good number in a 3x3 space if you train them right and do a good job of estimating stretch.

I got a virtual sun 4x4 a few months ago and love it. So far so good. Was a lot cheaper then some of the more well known companies. I got to agree with squidbilly though, always spend the extra. Spend good money once instead of bad money twice.

I love our grow lab tent. Sturdy, with everything I need. It's worked well with no light leak issues ever.

I agree not to buy the cheapest. Space is a concern though - would like enough room for 4 good sized plants which as Squidbilly (& others) have said would be doable in 90x90cm. I like the Grow Lab as mentioned but they only have 80x80cm or 100x100cm :wall:. I found another tent by Secret Jardin 90x90x185cm (140euro) with 3 entrances, excellent but I like the GrowLab, must be poodle's comment lol. I was first set for 80cm but now looks like i'll end up with 100cm - hope it ends there. Oh please make it stop cause thats the absolute max size I can go to & pushing it ;)

By the way if you grow with LED would you still need as many duct ports?

anyone know if LED coverage 120x120cm is wasted in a tent 100x100cm? or would the extra light reflected off the mylar be magically absorbed by the plants ?

Secret Jardin tents, any good?

secret jardin and budbox are great. the cheap ones on ebay are good enough

plan out your grow, decide on lights, fans, filters, intakes etc then buy the tent

a tent is the first thing to go up, but its the last thing i buy

I started with four, I had clones that I revegged for a while and topped too much so once they took off well my tent got overrun. If you flip them, top them accordingly and scrog sure. if you have room for the next size tent get it. It will accommodate four plants better too.

Thanks amigo...just had a quick browse & they look really cool. There's a few retail outlets where I can find decent tents like GrowLab & Secret Jardin, but HTG also supply LED which im in the market for so I just emailed them for more info. Duly noted about the 'lunatic' spreading shite 8)

They are ok i own a ds120 its great for the price.. but if your in it for the long haul Gorilla tent only there is no comparison. spend your money wisely. there are certain things you should spend more on and some you just don't need

Had a look at Gorilla...pretty awesome but pricey. Was considering the DR90 which is the ideal size & Gorilla is about $140 more expensive for same dimensions. Their tents seem a lot thicker so I assume thats good for odor, light & general durability, maybe overkill though for a small grow? interestingly their height can be extended another 5'. Premium stuff...not sure what to do anymore, cheers 8)
