Its all about the grow and to help each other out.with my 1000watt I get big nugs and with co2 its like wow.sometimes I put the 600 in the tent with the 1000. If I had the money I would put 4 600wats in the tent but at 400$ each I don't think so

From http://www.eyehortilux.com/products/High-Pressure-Sodium#shps

wattage | intial lumens | lumens per watt

1000w - 145,000 - 145 lumens per watt

600w - 88,000 - 146.66 lumens per watt

400w - 55,000 - 137.5 lumens per watt

250w - 30,500 - 122 lumens per watt

So were looking about 1600 lumen difference 600w vs 1000w.. That's like a 25w cfl.. Pretty negligible to me.. Though I understand the benefit of using 600w lights when going a couple kw.. better canopys and stuff :).

Good to know you guys are getting to like a ft from your canopy with no problems. I can't raise my light any further, but they seem happy so I'm just letting them go :).
this is something I found a in the past

I think its a wide range as well, but gives an idea of where is too close and actual output of different bulb types/watts

Now heres my question.

If a 600 hps can be as close as 8" according to the chart, does that mean from the glass or bulb itself?
Different hoods have different depths and that can make a difference as well as other factors.

Bulb itself. I agree there are a lot of variables. I just stick with the trust thermometer at canopy level. If its over 80 I raise it. I'm usually only about 1-3 inches off the glass in flower. About 6 in veg

The other thing that confused me is that was very specific that the range was based on light-candles (is that lumens?) and not heat. It looks like they are saying that ~65,000 light-candles are the most a plant can handle. Doesn't matter if it's 1" or a mile away. I wish it said more about what the negative effects were of being to close that aren't based on heat.

I got light bleached leaves when my plants get too close to the glass directly under the bulb. It looks like the name would imply, the leaves get yellow and then white.

Here is an example:

I guess I wish there was more detail. For example, does THC production drop off at 65 and bleaching at doesn't start until 240,000? That "To Close" range is pretty damn big to. Maybe I should be investing in a LUX meter.

Day 46 of 12/12

The girls are budding along nicely. Picked up some General Organics Urtica for the added iron (helps with aroma) and other microelements.

Canopy:

one of the Maple Leaf Indicas. Looks about a week or two away from chopping time.

Nicely done OP. Here's my first grow area. I've already harvested a couple auto la divas, photo blue widow, photo madness (my fav), auto blueberry and photo white widow. Got 2 zips per photo and 1 on autos. Currently flowering a Critical Jack and running white lavender (mutant growth everywhere), think different auto and diesel auto. Went 12/12 6 weeks ago. The little ones have been going a few weeks. Whatcha think? Please, be gentle........
