Grow 2 lbs. on a 2’ x 4’ 32 Site DIY Aeroponic Unit

how long will the sprinklers be kept on during each stage? I don't want to drown the seeds right from the start.

Also, I haven't seen this pump up close yet, does it have different settings to increase or decrease the amount of water being spewed through the sprinklers.
I don't see why this system can't go on a timer, but I was told to run it 24/7 by the experts. Also, if you consider the Aerogarden, it is for seedlings and runs 24.

no settings on pump, just a long ass cable to plug in.

great builds guys! what do expect from a 32 aero site?
If you can get an ounce per plant, 2 lbs. If you get a half oz. per plant, 1 lb. Either way, that should be pretty tight for a 21.5" x 42.5 " garden (less than 2' x 4'). Obviously it is for the experienced grower to get the max yield from this set-up. But, considering the video this concept would work...in theory. Confident, not cocky, I think I could pull it off...:neutral:or come close. :hump: At the very least, I will pick up some game.

so i just wanted to see how a few more things would work and ended up with one thats just right... i made the last two short pieces on each side a little shorter so that i could get further in to the corners without screwing up the way the lid fits. and used some seal thats used for garage doors and siliconed the lip of the lid and stuck that seal on it and screwed it on then sealed over the screws and i don't have any leaks..
i also only put 24 jets in this one and a 396GPH and it works great! i just left this one in the water to see the difference in temp..

i have found that the tub with the 633gph was 2 degrees hotter than the one with the 396gph..and member that the one with the 396 is submerged..
i am going to start making a chiller cuz i know when i turn the other two lights on i will need one..

I'm about to set up my own, and I was thinking about the temp issue. It may be easier/cheaper and possibly more beneficial to just add an air pump with a stone or two, and you can alter the temp of the res by moving the air pump to a cooler spot (possibly outside of your main room even, if temps are that much of a concern. There's no head on an air pump so distance away shouldn't be an issue for air volume, and running cool air through the water def does a good job of dropping the temp. Just a thought, easier than setting up a chiller too.

My other improvement/modification to the design is going to be a dual pump set up. I've had enough shit go wrong with growin, timers, pumps, lights, and with aero it wouldn't take more than an hour or two of no pump to ruin the whole crop. With two smaller pumps at least they won't die before I notice and replace a dead pump. :bigjoint:

Then again I got feet of snow outside so temps are much easier for me to keep low, and two small pumps could create even more temp problems for you people in warm climates.

A question for people who've set this up,
Where did you find a rubbermaid with a flat top? I went to Home Depot and Lowes and they both had really rounded lids that look like they'd be a reeeeaaal bitch to try and cut out with a hole saw.

we both got those flat lids at home depot and thats the only place i could find them.as far as an air pump i have 2 12 inch stones in each one just don't have them on cuz they made it a little hotter.. but puttin the pump in a small freezer or a cooler place,i could see that working...and will definitely try that before a chiller.

i thought about that to and i am thinking that with this system as long as the pump didn't fail while u had seedling or clones with short roots this system is actually a dwc so if u had an airstone in there your plants wouldn't even need the sprinklers.. or if u didn't have an airstone in there the plants would do fine until they drownd which i'm pretty sure it takes days for that...

doc if i have jacked this thread i apologize
that was not my intension i only wanted to share my mistakes and successes in this project with u and everyone else in hopes to make an elite method of growing with ease though many minds.. and have made modifications becuz of leaks incase u have any troubles..
thanks for pioneering doc!

Awesome post man....just a quick question. With a tote of that size and having 32 plants, would that be enough room so the roots wouldn't get insanely tangled together? Also, would they all get a sufficient amount of water if they are crowded like that?

will be flowering my next crop in this setup i think, possible different sprayers though as these dont give the spray type or coverage i'd like to see

I see troubles here a brewing....

First, you will be lucky to get 18 lollipop plants flowering in there.

(To the guy with the stacked rubbermaid tubs.)
Second, your planning on a 600W HPS inside of rubbermaid tubs? I hope your cool tubing and venting well, it will sound like a jet engine to keep that tiny thing cooled properly.

Third, you have no adjustment for your lights... How are you going to control stretching?
(End comments to that guy...)

Fourth, it takes much more than only one hour of no water being pumped to ruin the harvest. I left my pump off for 8 hours and I thought I was screwed. Plants kept on trucking.

Fifth, a plant requires a ton of water at maturity, my plants will gladly drink more than a gallon a day.

Ok, that is just my two cents on the subject.

Also, the smallest I could grow my strains would be 2ft tall and 7" in diameter, you have to account for air movement too. I would bet 7g to 14g per plant in this type of setup and that is with 16 plants so they have room to breath and grow. About 4 ounces is a more realistic number in my opinion.

Don't ever trip. This site is for all users. I don't claim anything.

I think you are confusing this thread with the one containing lights inside totes. Not here! But, watch the referenced video to become more informed on this theory. If you are confident in your skills and believe you can get 14-28g per site...:bigjoint:

There was only a section for the guy with the stacked totes...

I'm not confused, I doubt you will get 32 fully flowering nearly mature plants on that little table. I think it will make a nice beginning cloner or first 3 weeks veg/flower growth, but after that you will need to space the net pots out.
Have fun with mold if you plan to try and flower with that system. I use a 4x4x7 tent for 36 plants in an aeroponic system. Just my .02 that those sites are way too close.
