ive watched the movie since i got it about 2 and a half weeks ago. probably around 14 times enough my wife foes to the other room to watch tv lol. he uses a 80/90% indica strain a Northern Lights strain. those big vortex heads help a little im actually buying the aquamist system and im gonna buil one like Loud Blunts or Dr.GreenFinger and compare and witch ever is better i will do 2 more for a total of 3 systems. if you watch the video at least 3 times in a row and take notes you can get it down and its nothing to get the 15 LB's in 80 days IMHO! im in the process of completing my room and buying lights the aquamist stuff like that iv already built dr.greenfinger set-up i have fan/filter etc check the thread. i to will be aiming for around 4 to 6 with the first harvest when room is completed

That's a GREAT idea (to do a comparison). I hope you will post your results so we know how our DIY efforts match up to the original. LoudBlunts is running the Aquamist with excellent results. I'm hoping the DIY can match its performance. Strain, experience and nutes are without question the biggest contributing factors.

I still watch all these damn videos. :bigjoint:

Drgreenfinger, this question may have already been asked but for people just starting and with no way to get clones can you start from seed in cubes from this system?

Ok, i read through this whole thing, damn, to much information to process. I have a couple questions, these may have been posted somewhere but i missed them.

1) How do you keep the roots from getting into the water pump? I have seen other set ups where they stack totes, whats your suggestion?
2) How much maintenance does this system require daily, i would have the system at another location and dont want to go check on them more than once a day
3) So people here cut off the bottom third of the branches, do you do this? Why or why not?
Thanks for the help, i have been reading on here a ton lately and will be starting my first grow (aero) soon.

P.S. What is the best strain of bud to use with this set up? I am wanting to do an 8 week flowering and i want BIG TASTY BUDS

wow i just read through this thing too. If there is anyone out there still answering questions I have a couple.

I believe completely in a separate tank for the water/nutes. I tried growing hydo once and all my plants developed root rot and a strange white powder on the plants leaves and all over the hydroton rocks and pots because they were in constant contact with the water. So I might have a couple more feet of pvc to my tank should i compensate with a larger pump?

also this may sound like a stupid question but where does everyone put the water that gets sprayed onto the roots by the nozzles? do you recycle it and route it back to the pump? or does everyone drain it and toss it on some basil in the backyard :)

I would really love to do aero but I will push my head through a wall if I fuck up the Parts Per Million or PH and burn/kill the $100 worth of nice feminized seeds I have waiting. SO, what do you guys use to adjust the PH? How do you measure PPM? obviously I need to invest in a numeric meter for the PH cause these strips I have dont give me accurate results. (im colorblind so I have to ask someone to judge it against the table for me and they all say something different:( )

If someone answers these questions and then teaches me how to +rep someone I WILL HOOK YOU UP!! I absolutely love this site, all you guys help me spend money wisely and achieve results :)

I put my pumps in filter bags I get at the shop but I'm sure you could make them to. it's just a mesh bag with poly fill stuffing shoved in another mesh bag. It help keep the crap out of your pumps including roots. Another way is knee high stocking. Yes like pantyhose. Works good for roots and chunks and it's cheap!!

AS far as the ppm question you can pick up a perfectly good particle pen and pH pen on eBay for like $20 buck a pop. Worth every dime. If you don't know chemistry it easiest to get pH up and down from the hydro shop. You don't really use much and you usually only need one or the other. My shop charges like $4 a quart and i hardly ever need it. Make sure to get calibration solution for your tester the sell it in little 20 ml packs for like $1.50 or you can buy a big bottle for like $14 or so. eBay rules for the good deals on grow gear if you dig hard enough.

I built this unit and currently have 32 clones growing in it. There are no leaks as of yet, but I foresee there being a problem with the area around the handles soon. I used some bathroom caulking, but it seems like at any time it may fail. Any suggestions on what I can use? Also, when I initially caulked the holes, it had issues with the caulk just falling through the holes. Any suggestions?

Hey LB, good to hear from you bro! I was talking about this part, not the lid. Pic is from some guy who contributed to this thread, hopefully he doesn't mind. Looks like he gooped the shit out of it, I was in a hurry and probably didn't let it cure long enough. See the part were you would pick it up?

There is a product called gorilla glue.. The poly urethane version will seal any leak and be impervious to any solvent we use.. It looks transparent brown, not the wood glue.. Its all around useful 'ultra' glue (be fucking careful!)..
Beyond that, Home Depot etc will carry a solvent adhesive that will essentially weld pvc together..

yea i was gonna suggest the guerilla glue, but i thought it might crack on him if he's not careful enough with the handles

but i freaking love me some guerrilla glue. its the shit!

Mechanical reeforcement can't hurt.. Fasten a block or bracket to the wall below the tube.. Then with the extra working surface you'd be able to securely fasten the tube to the block/bracket sturdily enough that its seal with the wall wouldn't be stressed.. Its necessary to do similar reenforcements when you have to solder stainless steel..

To damnbigbudz. Yes you can recirculate your nutes. Get a particle pen. It is the only way you will not fuck up your PPM count on hydro nutes. You can pick up a perfectly good particle pen on eBay for less than $25. The root rot thing was most likely an oxygen issue in your tank. Put a couple of large air stones in your reservoir and hook them up to a good air pump. I can not stress how important this is!!! I have grown hydroponically off and on since 89 and never had a root rot issue NEVER. Don't let any light in your reservoir either. It's ok to let light in while you check on things but make sure it is light tight the rest of the time. If you do get a little tank yuck just add a little food grade H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide).

you can get waterfall/pond clay from a garden pond shop its water proof and you can stick it anywere. as for your leak prob if you want to never have to worry about a leak in your life with the rubbermaids use trash bags DO NOT UNFOLD THEM PULL THEM OUT OF THE BOX ALL FOLDED NICE AND NEAT LIKE THEY ARE AND PUT THEM ON THE SIDES OF THE BIN THEN SNAP THE LID ON. ive been using rubbermaids forlike 3 years an thats the only way to stop all leaks completly even tough boxes leak use trash bags there a life saver

Thx for the suggestions. I went and bought another tote and used a clear bathroom silicone. Gooped the shit out of the handles where I was concerned about it leaking and let it dry/cure for 2 days... no leaks and it's not getting soft like before. I think I didn't let it cure long enough the first time. I flipped my lid upside down and I have no issues with it leaking from there.

The system is in use and I started a journal if anyone is interested.
