Group in Portland wants less enforcement

From today's Press Herald: A group in Portland is circulating a petition to put onto the fall ballot an initiative to make possession of mj or paraphenalia by persons 21 or over the "lowest priority" for police. Basically, the cops would refrain from arresting anyone for small amounts of weed (that amount to be determined I guess), and refrain from working to determine if someone has mj or paraphenalia.

The DA and city attorney are mum on the matter. One cop, an assistant chief in Portland, was quoted as saying officers would abide by state law and the dept would "support officers' discretion". Well, I dunno about that. If Portland passes an ordinance it seems to me that its officers would have to enforce it..we'll see.

Meanwhile, there is little information on the state web site regarding LD1296. Its status is basically unchanged since 3/24. However I was told by the legislative info office last week that the measure is not dead. I believe it is still in committee, for an amendment. Time is running out, that's for sure. They are supposed to end the session by tomorrow, but usually there are some extensions. I don't expect the web site to be much help, unfortunately. It wasn't when the passed the current law either. If it does pass, we'll have to find out about it in the media probably.

Surely you wouldn't be insinuating that the state was biased towards Berkeley Patients Group?

small one in saturdays portland press and morning sentinel......basically we appealed the states decision on the second round of dispensaries and we won. The state had no proof of how it arrived at anyones score.....no notes, no required scoresheet for each scorer....so the state now has to rescore everyones app, following the judges orders and the two dispensaries have to suspend operations pending the outcome.....the state never informed the two dispensaries that there was an appeal, so look for lawsuits there.....when John Theile and I met in Feb, I asked him what happens when we win the appeal, and he said " we'll deal with it then"..now their dealing.....
