Grocery Store Requiring to Check-In Outside Beverages

I was shopping at my local Kroger with my old lady, and as typical I had a bottle of water that I brought from home with me to sip on (damn dry mouth). We were doing our regular shopping, and when I had loaded up a case of water into the cart I had noticed that one of the cases of water had one missing from a stretched out side. Overlooking the case with a missing water bottle, I grabbed a full case and proceeded shopping into the next aisle, however it wasn't long before I had a security guard yelling me down like I had done something wrong. "HEY! HEY, YOU! Did you bring that water with you from home?" yelled the security guard. I told him that I did in fact bring it into the store, and he made me aware that you are required to check-in water bottles and other food/beverages when entering the store. Is this typical kind of policy at a grocery store? I'm half tempted to stand in front of the security guard and drink my unauthorized outside beverage next time I go shopping.

I think you should share the contents of your outside purchased water bottle with said security guard- after your body has fully processed it of course.
