You've got to remember they've probably had this information already for the past 10 years or more - you've just not had access to it...

As far as I'm aware the SmartMeter is pretty dumb - it calculates and displays rates locally - I can't see it as a "big data" thing where they capture every users habits. They already do that with power grids (anticipating half time in sports, peak in use) and wouldn't benefit from looking at an individuals habits.

I've had access to it for 6 years and I log in to see my usage by the minute on graph. First time I opened it I saw that my usage peaked at 1ish in the afternoon, I asked the girlfriend and she does laundry and throws shit in the dryer at that time which is peak price :o. So yes lots of info, I watch lights come on at 7 and off at 7 in the flower room by looking at graph.

It will be handy for me when it's implemented - I've got a silent partner in my grow who pays half of everything - I could work out exact electricity costs...

No matter how you calculate it out, its a very simple way of looking at your yield - how much did your ventilation cost, nutrients, electricity, etc. Most grow houses publish approximate yields per square meter and I guess that's the best guide...

You could get anal like me and record lots of data! There are several pivot tables off this data too, so I know how feed totals relate to yield.

people forget to factor in man hours too

so you did 100 clones under a 600w hps and got 2gpw

ok how did you water the clones ? more time to water more plants, or you used a hydro system so include its extra power use or extra cost in the equation

but what about that time your hydro broke and you lose a crop 4 weeks into flower ?? do you include that in your next yields gpw calculations ?

I like hydro systems best but if I can`t get to the garden everyday I`d never run one as shit can go wrong fast and you can lose everything, fans and hydro problems can wipe your gpw to 0 in under a day if you get unlucky.

In a discussion about hypothetical theories, that's quite a hypothetical post.

The setup does play a big roll in how much you will get from a single area. 600 clones in soil in a 4x4 won't be clones to 600 clones in a ebb and flow table filled to the max covered in hydroton.

I guess that all depends how deep this "soil" is

I mean if soil is deep enough it could beat the shallow ebb`s if the plant has the correct time to root into it

I guess the best thing about flow tables is the plants root fast and you can get a good yield from a small clone, just it`s not so practical for trees, for big ass plants you need sacks or buckets, down side to most hydro`s is the extra height it takes up and setting it up so res changes are easy without losing space, plus rot issues when it gets hot and such

It`s true seen many people out there fixing a broken light when their fan or filter is blocked yet they don`t seem to notice that`s the real issue, I guess its very easy to under estimate airflow and focus on lights when you`re new to indoor growing.
