That just sounds miserable.

It's finally stopped below freezing here, dropped to the high teens overnight before warming up to the thirties. It isn't supposed to freeze at all tonight, however.

I heard a good point made about global warming the other day; it's not that what we're seeing is 'the new normal', but rather that it's 'the new baseline'.

I think things will be accelerating from here, leading to ever more change, ever more rapidly.

Germany, a nation 1/4 the size of America, has spent $200 billion since 2000 switching its electrical power generation from fossil fuels to renewables. They've made excellent progress and recently shut down their last coal mine.

Meanwhile, America has been spending an average of $20 billion a year since then (doing the math, that's $340 billion) subsidising our fossil fuel industry.

Even with that, we've reduced CO2 emissions from power generation by over 24% and now it's less than that emitted by our transportation sector.

It is nastier today than yesterday. I had to feed Miss Priss {Mamma's cat} and take a sprout to the screen room this morning, and it was not fun. The wife told my I was never going to hike the AT if a little cold rain bothered me that much. She may be right.

It's a cold, blustery wet day today. It rained all night, pretty hard at times. It's misted all morning, with some real rain mixed in. At 1515 it's raining, 43F with 92% humidity and 8 knot north wind. Forecast high/low is 44/36F with 50% chance of rain this afternoon, and 40% tonight. 10 day high/low is 67/29F with 8 1/2 days of sun coming as soon as this rain blows through.

After a day or so of chilly weather, it's been above freezing both day and night, with days in the 60s in the forecast. In December.

Last night {early this morning} when I left work, the rain had stopped and the cold was coming in. It was 37F driving in to work this morning. At 0910 it's cloudy, 39F with 78% humidity. Forecast high/low of 50/29F with no chance or rain. My 10 day high/low is 73/29 with 2 days of possible rain 9 and 10 days off.

I would love to be able to cover some tender vegetation for tonight's cold, but work will not let me. Will be survival of the most cold resistant.

Haven't done this in a while, but that big Solar Holiday is only 12 days away. My LoD is 10 hours 13 minutes, with tomorrow being 30 seconds shorter.

Length of day here is 9 hours, 20 minutes. It was 57 and sunny. It was a gorgeous day to walk my dog at the lake and look at the resting20171209_143346.jpg Canada geese.

Nice. It's already down to 36F, and they are still firm on 29F as the low. I'm a few miles out of town, and it runs 2-3 degrees colder there. With work, I haven't done any real preparations for the small plants other than the screen they are under. But I'm to the point with this crop that any that get killed just means less dirt I have to carry. Less holes to be dug.

We had a thick white frost again this morning. I stayed at the camp, and it was 30F inside the tent at 0630. Turned into a nice day though. At 1910 it's clear, 48F with 72% humidity. Forecast high/low of 65/42F with 10% chance of rain tonight. 10 day high/low of 69/32F with no real chance of rain. Some good hiking weather in there if I can find the time. Lots of shopping and town going this week. Ho Ho Ha Ha He He

Forgot to mention the nice icicles hanging off the garden fence this morning. A cheap plastic "Y" connector had split, spraying water. I'm glad to report all the brass, 4 way splitters are safely out of the weather. Those bad boys are about 18 bucks each, and I have busted more than my share over the years.

We are having a cool, but sunny day today. At 1355 it's sunny, 62F with 30% humidity. Forecast high/low of 62/46F with no chance of rain. 10 day high/low is 79/46F with tonight being the coldest night. Looks like two days of possible showers.

The rain is nice, but we are not getting enough to overcome what we lost the first two months of Fall.

My length of day is 10 hours 10 minutes, with tomorrow being 7 seconds shorter.

Winter is just a couple of three days away. When we get to the bottom we will go back to the top and do it again.

They think there was only about 10K of us lived thru the last ice age. That is pretty fucking slim margins. Lot more of us today. I'm sure a few will make it, no matter how rocky the road.

There's nothing inherently special about humans. Our ability to accumulate information and educate our children is the only thing that really sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom.

What we've been doing with that knowledge is proof that we aren't really apart from the rest of the animal kingdom, lol
