Going Big: New Year, New Grow! 600w DWC tent

I've had a few people tell me that it's pretty common for them to see crops finishing quicker in the summer and slower in the winter. Not sure if it's true, but if it is I'd attribute it to temperatures. I bet if you're running a big light and your always battling high temps you wouldn't notice it. I can barely keep my temps above 65 in the colder cycle but we also have a real winter here. I'll keep our low temps and low humidity though :blsmoke:

Any ideas/estimates on what you'll yield?
My temp doesn't go over 77 during the day and doesn't drop below 67 at night, so I don't think that is it. My theory is too much N early in the flowering cycle. Both plants were overfed during this time while I was still trying to dial things in.

Based on how big they are and how much light I'm using, I'm hoping for 3/4 to 1 lb from the chop session this weekend. I'm hoping to pull 3+ oz off the LA woman and another 10-12 off the TW.

Yeah, that'd be a serious haul. Too bad you aren't closer, we could have a harvest party. bongsmilie

If my friend finishes his finals shit and comes over tonight, I'm probably going to be harvesting the LA woman. I've been smoking on stuff harvested from her a week ago and its good shit. Another week probably did wonders for taste and potency. Its some of the tastiest bud I've smoked in a while.

If you actually end up needing help I'll venture out of the mountains. I've got tomorrow off too
Thanks for the offer but my response wasn't timely enough to take advantage. Plus I don't think I need help since most of the plant isn't done yet. I can basically just pull stuff off and trim it up at my leisure. I'm sure when you come into town on your own accord some time during the summer to look for housing, the stragglers will still be going and we can have a chop party.

I like to keep my pH under pretty strict control. The nutrients I use say 5.5 to 7.0 is an acceptable range but I've found the best results keeping it consistent at 5.6-5.9. This is the most optimal level for maximum nutrient uptake.

I have been harvesting in stages since I've been busy with work, my chopping buddy has family in town for his college graduation, and the plants STILL aren't done to my satisfaction. Last night when checking out the buds on the TW, I discovered some mold in the huge donkey dick bud. Luckily I caught it early when it was lower in the bud and lost maybe an eighth of dry weight from the stuff I had to cut off. I got all paranoid about mold and started clipping the buds that looked most done. I spent 5 hours last night trimming bud and ended up with 6 oz wet, 3 of TW and 3 of LA woman. There hasn't even been a dent made in the amount of buds I have to chop up. I've pulled probably 2 dry oz, so I think an lb total isn't unreachable.

Yeah, the novelty wears off really fast after 15 minutes of trimming. I had to quit after 5 hours because the pain in my back from sitting in one place for so long was excruciating. Harvesting really is the most labor intensive part of the grow. I took some pics while I was trimming. I'll load them up a little later...

The other cab is just a veg cabinet for now. I'm not using it right now because I don't have enough time left on my lease to finish another grow cycle. I'm also having trouble with ventilation and lighting in the box. For a veg cabinet, a 150w hps isn't ideal and puts off too much heat to contain with whimpy pc fans. I want to switch to fluorescents to keep the heat down and use a more appropriate spectrum for veg.

Kinda makes you wanna do them perpetually huh? Only harvesting a couple at a time keeps fresh green on hand at all times too. That's my plan next round. Heavy LST'ing but rotating in 1 plant every 3 weeks. As soon as one goes in 2 clones come off the mother and begin their 3 weeks of veg and LST. Best one goes into the 12/12 room. Loser leaves town. After a couple cycles make 1 of the clones the mom and flower that bush!

Trainwreck

LA Woman before trim:

LA Woman after trim:

5 hours of trimming yielded these two piles, 3 wet ounces each. I expect them to shrink to ~20g each after drying.

The LA woman has a great smell to it. Its hard to describe how it smells...a little lemon, diesel, coffee, must, sweet, and overall dank overtones. Out of the vaporizer, the taste is very complex and hard to explain. The TW has a more complex smell to it that I cannot begin to describe. Its one of those smells that you have to experience for yourself. It would be like telling you how a strawberry tastes...besides describing its sweetness, its impossible.

Of the buds I've smoked from both strains, the smoothness is incredible. No coughing or harshness whatsoever. I also didn't flush at all before harvest. That shit is a myth created by stoners who like making things harder than they need to be. Curing is what seperates decent bud from amazing bud, not starving your plants.
