I have tried everything to kill these fucks. applecider vinegar cup with platic wrap. (none went for it) i tried the garden safe spray (did nothing) i tried letting my soil dry out for a few days (didnt work just killing plants) they are breeding even faster. ive tried fly strips, none flying on it. They are very smart. The actual gnats are crawlign around on my soil in the pots and i havnt seen any larvae in the soil. THEY ARE KILLING MY PLANTS!!

try this brand called GoGnats, you can get it at a hydroponics store. It goes for like $22 a bottle that can make up to 100 gals. How it works is you make a solution out of the GoGnats with water and you drench the plant with it, water it until there's run off water and it's said to kill all the larvae in the soil. That's what the dude at the hydro told me. I brought a bottle today, gonna use it in a day or so.

1"-2" of clean sand on top of your soil and that's the end of your gnat problem. They can no longer live there and will all move on.

Then you just water right through the sand. It stops them for sure every single time.

In two days they'll be gone.

It's very unusual to see any sign they're doing anything to the plant though. I would look for other causes making the plant look sick. Yes I know the larvae eat the roots, even still the plant doesn't usually show a problem.

Look up Azatrol from PBI Gordon. [ http://pbigordon.com/professional/page.php?id=280 ] It's a fungicide/miticide/insecticide. OMRI certified too. A Neem-based product. I love it. Use it regularly to prevent it all. Since I started doing this grow thing like crazy in October 08 I've only had one fungus gnat infestation, nothing else since. That infestation, on my first crop ever, was what led me to Azatrol in the first place. My local shop carries it. It's expensive in the big bottle, but some places, break down a bottle and will sell dropper-bottles of it. Mix with water and spray, drench, or add to water/feeding tank. No resistance build-up like with prethrin-based products, but it's not designed for knock-down killing. Read about how it works. Fascinating.

Good luck!

My hydro shop sold me Azatrol and told me to drench my soil/ hydro with it. LBhydro.com. Kills root pests and aphids and Gnats. Use a rooting enhancer to bolster damaged roots.
