giving defoliation during flower a try

Hey UB, I have been reading your comments and i am curious about your thoughts on situations where there are so many leaves that it blocks the bud from absorbing light, leaving the harvest, plentiful, but with a huge percentage of undeveloped buds because only the tops of the colas received light?

He will say that it penitrates to the ground through 1 million leaves and Lack of light doesn't make low buds fluffy. Lol.

Scissors? No that doesn't work for me. I use a handsaw to cut them lose from the mass. The labor isn't worth the 20 cents, I only have 6 plants in the tubes.

That's not uncommon if you didn't veg the mother from seed to full maturity before flipping the switch, then the older clones tend to transition faster to full on flowering.
I have 5, 5 foot tubes with 5 plants in each tube, damn your roots must be massive to need a saw!!! i thought my roots were looking really well, how long do you veg?? my clones veg 1-3 weeks before i flip to flower. i never take cuttings from a mother plant till she is at least 2 months old as i was told a seed mother has to be mature in order to get full potential out of the cuttings. my plants veg in a seperate dwc and once they are ready to flower they are pulled out of that dwc they are in(a 36 site dwc in a bc northern lights bloombox) and trasfered into my flowering dwc,, maybe i lose some roots in the move,, i know they are healthy, but wish i could see your roots compared to mine as we actually have basically the same set up...just letting you know, next week im starting a thread with pics of my room and set up, but the plants will be 2 week cuttings in the dwc like yours..im cutting the plants in there now on thursday or friday..pics will be easier to see the set up w new plants as if i took a pic now you wouldnt even see the tubes under all the plants.. hope you can check it out when i put it up..maybe you can give me some new ideas or tips or vice versa. also wondered what kind of nutrients you use?? i use general hydroponics maxi grow, maxi bloom, mad farmers N.U.T.S., and GH koolbloom powder for the last 2 weeks of flower.and GH kleen for last 3 days..ive used many nutrients over the years and wasted lots of money on others but the cheap maxi seies always woks for me at least.

With a good scissor I could probably cut them through but I actually do use a small hand saw to cut the cups loose from the mass. Cutting those thicker roots out of the net cups is just too much hassle. I veg clones for about 1-2 weeks, seedlings a little longer but I preveg those sort of speak in a smaller setup (dwc boxes, i.e. a box with an airstone). I vegged over 4 weeks once and had stems so thick I had to "chop" them out of the tubes. Not from the thick roots in the cups but some pics of the mass in this post:

what kind of nutrients you use??
House and Garden Aquaflakes AB. So just the base nutes, about 350-500ppm/0.7-1.0EC.

I've never had a problem and stated why and showed photos many times. Where people go wrong (for the hundredth time in the hundredth boring thread) is automatically assuming that popcorn buds are due to low light levels. You have played right into this forum paradigm.

As I've said (again for a hundred times) these parrots have never grown outdoors or they might have witnessed first hand the same kind of popcorn at lower levels. Some of this is genetically driven but most times can be directly attributed to how a plant develops from juvenile into adulthood and how a plant assesses and directs its chemical resources (carbos, proteins) and hormones via apical dominance. When the flowering (hormonal) response is triggered, a plants' resources, food byproducts, are directed to the uppermost part of the plant, not the lower part. It's just what plants do. A tree develops from the top, outward, Not from the bottom, inward.

Most fruiting trees, grapes, develop flowers and then fruit within the shaded canopy, not necessarily at the top.

Photos #1, 4, 6 show some very solid and chunky bud collections at lower levels in spite of those areas being totally shaded.

I have a strain growing right now where the lower branches are higher than the top growth so doubt they'll be popcorn lol, just sayin! And nope nary a leaf removed!

And how does he know all the useable spectra aren't already absorbed by the time it gets that far. What's so irritating isUB applies facts sparingly and logic...not at all.

Latest studies say the amount of and intensity needs to be on the leaf. The lower leafs get enough to keep alive and some don't even get that so the plant supports it. But screw studies at universities.

i dont want to argue but i read in hightimes this month about pruning and how a fan leaf starts to be less enficent about half its age and the less energy it makes and should be pulled so the real big fans leafs which most times are the oldest should get culled i think 20 little new leaves is better then 1 big ass one but please no smart ass comments, i stop posting here cause of that, i argue enough at home and come on here to learn and chill not fight

Once the leaf gets full size it's on its way out. One week later and it's only making enough energy to stay alive. A few weeks later and half its survival depends on the rest of the plant. Removing it is best for the plant. If I want a branch to catch up with the taller ones I take lower leafs and branches, for clones, and she catches..
