Yah... they're blaming it on global warming. Those edges indicate that gas pimple was developing for far longer than human involvement, though.

I have seen many cases of gas eruptions flooding valleys and hillsides. the gas being heaver than o2 floods a landscape and kills villages of people and livestock. That kind of stuff could happen anywhere these days.
