This plant was grown outdoors in a large pot in a mix of organic potting soil, worm castings and some straw on top as a mulch. A seaweed extract was also used throughout the whole life of the plant and a single feeding of sugars about two thirds into flowering. I didn't personally grow this one out myself, however it was a seedling that was intended for my garden, but was donated to a friend and we grew it together. Long story short, my SSH never flowered (had to chop it :-( ), so this is the one I have to critic. It was harvested 2 weeks too early in my opinion, we had some bad weather and it got damaged. It was late at night when I got my hands on it so only a very basic trim was done. It has since been dried and has been curing in the jar for just over a week now.

On a closer inspection with a microscope the trichomes aren't fully developed, i.e. there are still some clear heads (20%). This doesn't surprise me too much as it was harvested on the early side. About 70 percent of the pistils have retracted and turned that rusty orange color. I really feel that these buds could have thickened out a bit more had they lived for a few more weeks, they aren't as solid as the White Rhino that was grown alongside it, but again, that is to be expected since the WR is indica dominant.

Even though this is an early harvested plant, it hasn't let us down in the aroma department. It always had a sweet fruity smell throughout flowering that you just couldn't put your finger on...but once dried and in jars that aroma becomes a lot more pronounced. Unripe mango skins would be the best description I could come up with, reminds me of smelling the mangoes at the markets looking for a blend of mangoes at different stages of ripeness. What wasn't expected though was that this smell passes through onto the smoke and taste as well. I like to really give my bong a good clean out with an organic cleaner for smoking something like this (as the only alternative for me is street weed). I use an orange oil based cleaner, they are at most supermarkets and work a treat on getting rid of build up in dirty bongs. Just pulling a dry toke through an iced bong lightly coats my mouth with a flavor that reminds me of a tropical fruit juice I would take to school as a kid (like a passionfruit and mango/orange juice). I stack my bowl bigger than I could possibly take in one hit, so 3 hits are the norm. The strong taste of green mangoes comes through only on the first inhale with a mild hash exhale. My mouth is left a little musky though with green mango in the background. Every other toke from then on is nothing to write home about though. The smoke is not harsh or offensive like what I am normally used to, however closer to the end of the bowl things start to get a little harsher.

The high is slightly creeper, taking between 10 and 20 minutes for things to get into full swing. As Arjan from GHS said, more indica of the sativas. The high comes in waves, however it is no soaring sativa. There is just enough indica to balance it out. My face and mouth go numb initially which is followed by a warm body buzz. I'm happy enough to just sit back and contemplate, chill out and watch tv or hang out with friends. I find this strain great for doing small tasks, like chores around the house etc. About 40 mins after smoking the buzz wears off and I'm left with enough motivation to start doing the days work that I have been thinking about at the beginning of the high. I usually end up cooking some food after smoking this as it does stimulate my appetite somewhat. The high tapers off after about 1 and a half hours, giving you enough time to prepare for round 2. I find this to be a great smoke for small social gatherings, chilling out to music or going to the movies. I wouldn't recommend smoking this when your undivided attention is required or before going to sleep though, as I find it provokes thought a little bit too much for being able to fall asleep.

All in all, I found this example of Super Silver Haze above average. It is far superior to what is being sold out here on the street, but by no means like what would have won the High Times Cannabis Cup. It was easy to grow and produced a reasonable yield for the size of the plant and pot but would I grow this again though? Simple answer is no. If I wanted to try Super Silver Haze again I would buy them from Mr Nice Seeds. A lot of first time growers out there don't actually know the background of GHS (i.e. Arjan and Shantibaba). There are several other breeders that would get a go in my garden before GHS gets another go. Breeders such as Subcool, Shantibaba and Sannies. I also wouldn't recommend buying feminized seeds as well. The SSH I had in my garden never flowered. It got chopped down shortly before this one and even then it showed no sign of flowering (or nanners). This plant didn't have any problems during it's life time, but I feel that many new growers will be attracted to growing fems seeds and have a higher chance of stressing the plant and having hermaphrodite issues. In saying that, it was a pleasure to grow and I have learned a lot from this, which will allow me to grow better cannabis. Besides protecting the plant from the weather, next season I'm going to make up a proper soil mix, like Subcool's Supersoil as well as use a bigger pot.

Peace.

PS: I really need to do another trim of these buds, but as they are just for me I don't really mind the sugar leaves being on the buds for the time being.
