Germination help

Put 5 seeds in water and stored in my closet. Been in water nearly 2 weeks and only 2 have had tap root come out of shell. The other 3 have cracked the shell however the taproot still have not came through. Suggestions? Reasons? Remedy?

So your saying these are done and useless? What so you mean no need for water? This is how I've always done it

IMO, you are better off simply placing the seeds into your growing medium.
Keep it moist, and the seeds should pop out of the surface in four to six days. Or sooner.
Two weeks...never have I had to wait that long.

No need to put the seeds in water, but if you do, no longer than one day or so.

I'm willing to try anything. So just take the rockwool cubes and soak em, place seeds in there and let em do there thing? Whys everyone use a the water or paper towel method then?

Well I, for one, do not use paper towel or water method.
I do not use rock wool now, but I did many years ago...just keep it moist and no problems.
I have used soil-less mixes for the past 25 years or so...just keep it moist, bingo, seed will sprout within five or six days, or sooner!

Keep it simple.
Do not overthink germination...do what mother nature does...moist medium, popped seeds sprouting!
Very easy.

I'm actually using mapito at the moment but will let sprout in the rock wool. Ty for the help

Two weeks? If they haven't rooted, you probably killed them by drowning. I drop in a cup of water for ~18hours. Then, wet paper towel until crack. 2-3 days max, and I have tap roots. 99% success rate.

Just keep it moist by covering with plastic wrap or spaying a little every day...good luck...
you should be fine and good to go...no need to wait two weeks...

Maybe they did drown. Sitting in my cup as we speak. Was trying now to use all 10 seeds right away but looks like I'll have to smh

I never understood why you would put seeds in paper towels,they sprout,you still have to plant them,but,you rip up 1/2 the microscopic roots in the process. 24 hour soak in tap water,then right to your medium.If you leave in water for much more than a day,you are gonna drown them poor lil shits.

Wet paper towel works very well at keeping them moist, along with not drowning them. There is no microscopic root, only a tap root. Im aqua-aero, although I do use hydroton. I transplant only after the roots get to the point where they can reach water. That's why I use the paper towel method. I've also been known to leave the paper towel in the net cup. It doesn't hurt my system one bit and breaks down over time.



In the picture you can see DWC with 2in net cups and Sour Desiel seedlings. Ignore the onions. Its a 3ft×7ft×2ft fishtank I set up with onions for display. (Noone ever noticed the seedlings I had with them, and I moved them to my Aero when they reached 2in high) You can see its DWC-Aqua. I used paper towels so the seed's would not fall through and drown, although there is enough O2 where they wouldn't anyways.

Normally I'll use the method in the video, below. It's just the first video that Google pops up for me, with my method. I don't endorse Crop King nor do I know who the author is.

OK. Threw 3 more in water. Will let send for 24hrs then toss in the rock will blocks. Thnx fellas. This may be my new method if all goes well

He means u should only put the seeds in water for 24 hours then do whatever germination method u like or prefer., what i really don't understand is how you guys start germinating seeds without doing any research first., and dont tell me that u have because if so u wouldn't be leaving the seeds in water for 2 weeks, its like trying to bake a cake or make cookies without googleing the recipe and the steps first, come on people its common sense, not rocket science, anyways what i suspect is going on here is that that water is cold as shit and its really hard for a seed to sprout in that conditions, what i do and have always 100% success is the paper towel method, but what i do is place in top of my house water heater, but u have to be really careful and water at least twice a day because the paper towels get dry quick ass shit, i water the paper towels in the morning and at night and they always come out in 2 days always, theres a bunch of methods but since i have always 100% success why change? best of luck!! Keep researching and learning more it will pay off.

Actually i don't even put them in a cup of water, i just go straight to the soaking wet paper towels and place them on top of ma water heater covered with a coffee mug. Lol. Always work. Remember to water at least twice a day!! good luck again!!

Germination in Rapid Rooters or rock wool cubes is easy. Don't need cups of water, papers towels, domes, etc.

Drop seed in rapid rooter, done.

Dont use this method again.
If hydro use rw cubes, if soil use jiffy pellets.

Didn't read all the responses, but I've had 100% success with getting two paper towels wet, putting towel 1 on a plate, put the seeds on towel 1, cover with towel 2 (also wet), cover with another plate (So it looks like a flying saucer) and put it on top of a refrigerator (that area ous usually about 80 degrees or so. Check after 2-3 days for the tap root.

I only soak old seeds and only use paper towel when I have shit loads of seeds and need to thin the herd.

Breeder seeds (which I've only just got my hands on for the first time) I will not be screwing with the seeds at all. Straight into a moist medium so nature can do its thang it does so beautifully well without any intervention required from my dumbass hands

Survival of the fittest. Except when the seeds cost $40 AUD a pop then it's lay and pray... lol
