Germinating

Yea man here is what you do. Take a paper towl and get it nice and wet with warm water. Fold it a few times and put your seeds in there Then put the paper towl in a plastic bag and close it up. Put the bag near a light source where it will stay at room temp. Check every day. I would change out the paper towls every 2 days till the seeds sprout.Good luck!!

Do as above except stay away from the light source. Your seeds have to be in total darkness. Keep in a cupboard but where the seed baggie will stay near room temperature.

soon as they have sprouted about 5mm, plant them in soil that has already been watered and drained well... only about 2mm of soil over top of seed casing and with root sprout obvioulsy pointing downwards...

inm y short experience, i've found putting them under indirect light at this stage makes a much healthier plant.

Put the seeds in warm water, kept warm by a heating pad, until they have broken their shells, then put them either in paper towells, or straight into soil, root tip down

... there are i guess many safe ways to do it, some people wait until the seedling is established, me, i think i play it safe by getting them straight under light... not sure. Maybe I'm playing it dangerously but it worked for me anyway!

best of luck though!

I usually get 4 out of 6 seeds to sprout using this method (the prior times I have tried to grow but usually never got them past week 3 because I wasn't serious about growing).
Fold a paper towel in half, splash a few drops of water on it and put a few seeds in the paper towel on the wet spots to ensure they dont move around for the time being (space the seeds out) fold in half again... and if you have more seeds do this same process again...I usually keep the folded paper towel pretty dry (with the exception of the wet spots from earlier) untill I get it in the plastic bag...there's nothing more annoying then trying to get a wet folded paper towel into a plastic bag without bunching it up. Now you should have a perfectly folded paper towel with perfectly placed seeds ready for germination.

From here you can either open the bag and spray the paper towel with a spray bottel. or do what I do and just basically fill the bag up a little and swirl the water to cover the rest of the paper towel... pour excess water out... I don't usually leave any water in the bottom of the bag, the blanket of moisture from the paper towel usually is enough.

I have heard that you don't want to touch the germinated seeds once they have sprouted... soooo the most logical thing to do would be scoop them out with a spoon.

Put the germinated seed sprout down/seed up inside your pot of dirt (im guessing your growing in soli) and lightly cover with a tiny bit of soil, and a light mist from a spray bottle for watering will work best for the first few days of waiting for it to really get goingNot too long ago on this forum We were discussing a certain chemical that some people add to germinating seeds that affects the way the plant grows... it supposedly adds an extra chromosome to the plant... go search for the topic it was pretty interesting

1. get 2 saucers... 4 pieces of kitchen towel.

2. place 2 kitchen towels onto saucer.

3. drip distilled water on them until a nice big moist patch in centre of towel, it really doesn't matter if the entire towel is moist.

4. Place seeds onto paper towel.

5. Cover with 2 pieces of kitchen towel and drip distilled water onto them until moist throughout.

6. place 2nd saucer on top so you create a dome and tip up to remove any excess water if there is any.

7. place saucers into a food bag and tie with a tag.

8. place bag into airing cupboard and try to keep at around 21°.

9. The seed casing chould crack and sprout within a few days.

p.s. this has worked for me every single time. maybe i've been lucky

what method is overal the best? what do you guys think about just dropping the seeds in a cup of warm water and putting it in a dark place?

Well, the overall BEST method would have to be the simplest, and that is put the seed directly into the medium it will root in and let it go.

period.

That way, the root tip contacts the soil immediately and the tiny hairs start sucking nutrients. This old lady named Ma Nature has it figured out.

The reason we germinate outside of the medium is to make sure that the seed opens. It's a convenience thing, so you don't have to wait to see if it comes up out of the soil.

When I germ in paper towels, I check the seeds every few hours. When a seed cracks open, and the root tip just sticks out, I use tweezers to gently pick up the seed and place it where it goes.

HTH

Check widows grow journal. he has even included pictures for those that have a problem reading. You ask for advice, its been given and then you just want to know if your idea works?
