Germinating Problem

About 5 days ago, last Thursday, I started to germinating my 2 seeds with Sealed lunch box.
1st day (20-24hr),they were in tap water in a botlle. no roots
2-4day they were put in a sealed glass box with paper towel.
4th day morning, 1 of them had a little tail.
but in 5th day, no growth.
I don't know what to do with this situation.
NEED some advises. should I not seal the box or?

Temp is about 20-28 C. Seeds were half in water.IMG_20170620_194322.jpg IMG_20170620_194401.jpg IMG_20170620_194306.jpg

plant the one with the tail, further delay could account for a fail.
put the others in water and wait
stop fussing, covering, sealing. if they crack they may grow, if they dont they may not. but wait.

it happens. some seed stock is old, got wet, damaged, and some arrive non viable for garden habits maybe.
we take our lumps in the biz, most seed vendors are not shy about their very best or popular breeder selections. I suggest beginning
with cannabis cup winners and their breeder selections.

You've drowned them. Easy to do, especially with seeds less than a yr or so old.
you mean this much water is too much? I've seen video on youtube, they did put seeds completely in water for about 4days, those seeds have tails just in water.
I don't know how to judge water situation, how much could drown the seeds?
and I'm supposed to buy seeds less than a yr right? how could i tell this? I buy seeds on the wedsite called Seedcity

IMO, yes. 4 days in water is way too long. All that water will cause the cells to swell depleting it of o2 which leads to tan/brown rotting tissue before the embryo has a chance to germ. However, some older seeds usually lose some water within cell tissue causing the embryo to shrink up. This is why some "soak" seeds.
Drowning seeds is easy and unfortunately a common mistake...especially given all the "bro science" new growers are bombarded with over media sites. Basically just remember seeds need a good balance of air and water.

Soaking does work...sometimes, but it shouldn't be recommended IMO...especially if the grower is new or has little knowledge regarding the age of seeds.

FWIW though, if I'm germinating seeds I "know" to be older stock (3+yrs old) I soak them overnight in a shot glass full of bottled water and a couple drops of Ful-Power. Usually by then they've "oystered"

For the "pre-germ" paper towel method - use just enough water so its not dripping wet. Close it up in a ziplock and set it somewhere warm. They should sprout tails within a day or so and you can gently transfer them to your growing medium.

Or you could skip the "pre-germ" all together (which is best) and pick up some Root Riot/peat plugs. Those things are damn near fool proof with a great air/water balance. This method also means you don't have to handle/transplant the seed which could damage the delicate taproot.

After awhile, you'll be able to sow directly into your substrate, which is best IMO.

is this "Root Riot plugs" like this?TB1YsMbLXXXXXatXXXXXXXXXXXX_!!0-item_pic.jpg_430x430q90.jpg

I guess this double layer box is important than the plugs.
like in the pic, it got 12 rooms and each room has a hole at the botton. maybe i put the "pucks" in it ,that's ok?
coz this "tray box with plugs" is not easy to buy in my country :<
You don't really need the tray. Its just a nice option. And I never use the dome/cover with seeds. The only time I use a dome is in the winter when my humidity is super low from my woodstove/furnace and even then only when I'm taking cuttings. Seedling don't really need it and its best to let them acclimate to the climate they'll be grown in.
But yeah, those plugs in the last pic would be fine. I use the generic/store brand as well. They're a nice affordable option.

Actually, once you get your water/air ratio on point you can germ/sow right in your soil/substrate. Those plugs I mentioned are just a nice fail safe option because it lessens the chance of drowning your seedlings or damaging/stunting them during transplant.

Next time, soak them in some kelp for 12 hours then plant them directly where they can start taking up nutrients from the get go.
Keep planted seeds only barely moist. no need for lids and shit, just pour a teaspoon of water of the spot the seed is in each day.
Never stir looking for the seedling. It should germinate in 10 days at the longer side of the spectrum if it is very cold.

drown? I left mine forgotten for two weeks in a jar and they had rat tails on all of them.
old or new they either open or they dont ime.
Gu's open every time in less than 24 hours so far. a few dozen of them
all at once soaking in a jar of water. I'm betting they are really new?

I never trusted paper towel ink/process chems and such so never used it. many do successfully, till not. same with water, till not.

some use pucks some dirt, some paper like you say whatever is working for you, continue

Soaking seeds is a waste of time.
Think about it. All a seed needs is moisture, not a fucking bath. I simply use a germination mix in a 2"x2" peat pot, moistened, put the pots in a Burpee germination dome on a heat mat, and in 3 days the seed's will pop. I then place the seedling, in the same cube into whatever I am using, it being coco, soil, or in my case Hydroton as I use a drip system. No transplant shock, and it works like a charm. The less you fuck with the seed, the better off it will be.
Good luck
