Georgia Growers

I live about an hour north of ATL in a very rural area and have about 1000+ acres of woods to choose from.

Last year I lost 9 of 10 plants during that damn 2 weeks straight of rain we had in september right before harvest time. I hadnt been able to get to my grow patch because of the wet conditions and when I got out there they were all dead

but I do have a few questions

What strain would be best for our climate and minimal babysitting (no more than 3 visits per month)

and my results were kinda spotty, so do I need to make sure im getting direct sunlight ALL day, or will light in general do the job?

I've had good luck with Northern Lights. This year is Northern Light and White Castle from Nirvana via Attitude, a very affordable compact hybrid sativa. I got bonus seeds of Super Lemon and Bubba Kush that I will be trying at some point this year as well.

As far as sunlight goes.... direct is better, at lest a few hours direct a day and if the rest is indirect then so be it. With all of the trees here and the sun on the south side of town it's really a bit hard to get direct any longer, and this rule has always worked for me. I'm less than an hour south OTP.

It was fkn snowing in April last year, and with the way the weather has been this year, I'm waiting until May to start the bad boys because im putting them straight into the ground.

And thanks for the heads up on the northern lights. I grew some absolute dirt weed last year since it was my first grow and I was just trying to learn, and I definitely learned alot. Somehow the weed I grew turned out WAY better than the stuff that I got the seeds from.

But as far as size, my outdoor hit 5-6 ft being planted in april, zero nutes other than some osmocote, and I let nature do all the watering. I basically just went and made sure nothing had messed with them once a week, and staked them up if something had knocked them down. But I'm going to order the NL tomorrow.

One other thing...

Do you guys put alot of potting soil into your outdoor holes, or do you just get the hole big enough for the root ball and let it dig into that JAW-JUH red clay? And do you guys do any training/pinching/pruning or do you leave them 100% natural outdoors?

I'd like to know about the 'fishing line trick' too.

I don't do fishing line tricks or anything else to let somebody who otherwise just might be passing by know that something is special about the area.

I do top my plants to keep them low, but that's it as far as pruning with the exception of harvesting the main colas and leaving the smaller perimeter buds for another week or so. This is just how I learned to do it and other people will do things different, but my reasoning is two-fold: First is so that I will at least get my main crop just in case something wacky happens. Second, I have found that when the main cola is harvested the plant then dedicates its energy and nutes to the smaller buds and they get bigger & better in that short amount of time. Obviously you don't want them to over-ripen, but face it.... we all have a tendancy to get anxious to get our big prize, so the other little nuggets are icing on the proverbial cake.

I also use bagged garden soil in my holes along with compost. I dig my holes out and re-fill them with a mixture of the bag soil, compost, 10-10-10 fertilizer, and some of the dirt that I removed.... but I did this in January. I covered the pre-dug holes with leaves and scatter the left over dirt out so that there's no tell-tale signs, fwiw. It's all ready to go by late April, and that's when I transplant my seedlings from my little cold-frames to mother earth.

I'm gambling this year as far as the last frost goes. I also grow a large vegetable garden every year and I already have onions, radish, spinach, cabbage, lettuce, and collard greens in the soil as we speak, and they started peeking out this week.... so I'll be having to cover them with plastic if get another frost or snow.

And correct.... I've stated already in this thread and it was just mentioned again by capone... GA is pretty much the worst state to get caught in, so stealth and not getting caught is my main priority every year. Period. It's simply not worth it. Last year I ended up yanking several plants before they were ready just because I didn't estimate their size v/s location very good and they got waayyy too visible. Live and learn but it's better than getting busted or losing them right at harvest because they got spotted.

I'd like to try both indoor and outdoor this first grow of mine. Maybe 3 in and few out and hope for females (bagseed!)

I've seen 1 lb grows in 10 gallon pots but not out in the woods somewhere. It was beside a deck in a secluded backyard where it could be maintained every day. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done in a remote location but it would be awefully hard to do here, imo. You'd have to go see about it almost every day.

im gonna be doin my first grow in GA, second grow ever this year. ive got a bunch of mid bagseeds. if im only shootin to get about a pound of finished dry chron, when should i plant and about how many should i plant? i was thinkin bout 2 different plots with about 6-7 plants at each, plants around the end of april. i know how strict GA is on weed laws so i want to make it so i only have to visit about once a week or less. anyone got any good tips? its good to see theres other folks out here in GA growing. good bud is soo fuckin expensive here ive quit smoking. i cant afford to pay 20$ for .8grams of good bud and i dont even know any connects that dont try to stiff me out of bud. not lookin for hookups but damn if you say 20 a gram then gimme the whole gram! hopefully this year ill grow enough that i wont have to deal with that

Man, there's so many variables, Rambro.... The amount of plants depends on your location(s) and what you can feasibly handle without getting caught or ripped-off. When to plant depends on whether or not you've got seedlings to transplant or if you are going to try to grow from seed on sight (not likely, I realize). Me personally, I grow very little quantity. Not even a pound as of yet, but it's enough to sustain me and me alone. I transplant seedlings... as most people do.... and mine are already out in the woods and in the ground as of this past weekend. You've got another month to get yours in the ground and reap the benefits of a full growing season here.

Good luck & don't get caught. Don't even take a chance. You're probably in the worst of the 48 states to get caught growing in. ... .

well i moved back in with my folks recently after gettin laid off, so i dont have the luxury of being able to start indoors. tomorrow me and a buddy are gonna go out and find a good spot in the woods. my first grow i grew with 2 "friends" and i got ripped the night before i was gonna pull and dry em, so this time i think i might have 2 spots in the woods(one that he doesnt know about). if i plant before may then i should still have time to get some nice ladies goin. wish i woulda decided on takin another stab at it a few weeks ago so i coulda order a few feminized seeds

I ordered feminized seeds from Attitude and got 'em in about two weeks, fwiw. Those guys are great. As far as "friends" go..... I have friends that grow as well but we don't grow together. We all talk about it but nobody has EVER tried to go in with anybody else because we all know that when it comes time to pull people tend to get greedy. We've all been there before and know the deal. I respect that and they do too. Some of those guys (3 together) went in years ago and worked as a team and though they brought in almost 50 lbs one of them still tried to rip the others off, even with that much to share, so they've got an unwritten rule and I learned from their experience and many other tales that I read on these very pages every night. i feel ya bro im kinda wary about a partner too after gettin ripped on my first grow, but the guy is the only other person i know of that goes in the woods where i can grow, and he has way more materials and resources to get a good grow going than i do. main problem i see tho, is theres a family of deer(maybe about 7-10) that live/eat/sleep in the area we can grow in. ive heard of a lot of methods to keep them away, but honestly i dont think they will be too effective since the spot is literally about 40yards from one of theyre bedding areas. only guaranteed method i can think of is to put those little cages around the plants, but well need a lot of cages since were gonna start about 20 plants and hope to harvest about 7 or 8 good females. have any of you guys ever used any of the other deer deterrents and got guaranteed results? i wish hunting season started now so i could thin them out a little bit with my bow!

This is from a cat who lived and grew in Cali, Alaska, and Washington till I was 29 and am now 30 and just finished my first crop in Georgia. With the "cannabis" culture down here, regardless of how "cool" your spot may be, I recommend finding a way of planning an indoor grow and spending your energy dialing in everything you need to go that route. Worked for me and here's the proof. Good luck either way man.
