Just thought I'd start a thread for those of us that would just like to chat or throw Ideas around.

I have yet to figure out how to link to my grow journal in my sig. So I will post a link here for now. https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/488737-2nd-run-4-ny-sour-2.html#post6691261

I built my gravity returned ebb-n-gro style hydro system after doing a lot of reading and research. I wanted a system that was simple and easy to maintain.

Under current systems didn't really appeal to me because you have to have air diffusers in every bucket and a pump that would run none stop. It just seemed to be wasteful electrical wise and if something were to happen to the air pump you'd quickly drown your plants. Not to mention the issues that go along with having that much water warming up under your lights, that could cause root rot. So I decided not to go with any of the DWC methods.

Auroponics seems like a good system, but most auro setups only grow smaller plants.(unless you do HPA) If I could grow a bunch of smaller plants but more of them, I would definitely consider this style system. But between our 6 plant limit per and some other smaller issues that could be dealt with in the design of the setup, like clogging misters. I decided this probably wasn't the method for me. NFT again if I could do a bunch of small plants. But that just wouldn't work for me.

The most particle alternative (for me) was Ebb-N-Gro. But the controllers buckets are so expensive. Not to mention if there is a leak (or something went wrong with the controller) you could pump a 55 gallon drum of water out fairly quick. Which would make a huge mess. But if you take away the controller and use gravity to return your nutrient water to the reservoir. You can buy a precision timer that you can control your water cycles with. I do 20 seconds on every 20 minutes. So if i sprung a leak it would take all day to drain my reservoir.

Well I hope I didn't offend anyone with my reasons for choosing the style setup that I did.

Any comments are welcome! Also feel free to talk about any other issue that you would like.

I have been a soil grower so far, but may try hydro at some point. I have a buddy that uses a system similar to your description.

Regarding the link in your sig, is the problem posting a link period, or finding the right URL for your journal? If it is the latter, try this: Go to your profile, then on the left side click "View Journal Entries". Once there, copy the URL from your address bar. Post that in a new browser to test; is that the page you want to link to?

Posting the actual url in my signature. Preferably I was trying to have the link be the Title of my thread instead of just a url looking jumble.

I really just needed to figure out how to do it. Which means I need to stop being lazy and make a signature!!

Great idea on the General Chat My :-) Thumb Up !!

I kind of like the description in your set-up (Ebb and Grow). I know that water problems freak me out a lot, since we rent and already have had two different instances where it became an issue. The first was with a small leak with my daughters waterbed, and then with the sink in the kitchen. Was not pretty to say the least, so yes ... water is always at the back on my mind.

As a precaution with my grow, I have laid out a protective tarp on top of a waterbed liner in both the closet and in my cab. It will not hold all of the water, but will protect a small spill should one happen ... which I hope and pray never happens.

I was all set up doing a Bubbleponic type of grow, until last week when a gifter gave me (4) lovely girls. They were and still are in soil, so I had to adjust and tweak some things to accommodate them :-) They seem to be doing fine since I received them on Friday, November 25th.

Here is something that I would like to kick around; I just got done reading about a Michigan patient that was looking to start a "Compassion Centre" in the Lansing, MI area. I kind of have been thinking about starting something like that here in the Central Maine area. It would be a place ( I have a good friend who has a bar with pool tables, pong, darts etc) and would be more than willing to open it up (if needed outside of regular hours) to patients. I know that we talk on here, and help out whenever and however we can, and I truly do thank all that do. But sometimes would it not be a little bit more fun and better if we shared in person that help and knowledge? I also know that a lot of ppl like to keep things off radar, and I respect that totally. I guess I am just a bubbly and friendly guy, who after 53 years, will prolly not change and go into hibernation. I figure that I have (2) separate doctor's that MMJ is the ticket, as well as, I paid the State $100 for my card back in February.

What do you think about the "CC" and what steps would I need to take on such an adventure? Are there any already in Maine that I do not know of?

Thanks for the input ...

Love and Peace

I have been considering picking up a few patient's sometime soon (by spring at the latest). I'm no expert on our Maine MMJ laws, so I kind of have reservations about jumping right in. I have downloaded all the pdf's of the Maine laws and have read through a good part of it. But to read and to understand are 2 very different things.
You could always try John Theile from the state division (207)-287-5810. He might be able to point you in the right direction.
A care center sounds an awful lot like a dispensary though. (I do know it's not) So I wounder if they would even allow it here.

I think if I do go forward I'd like to talk too and have an attorney on retainer. So I could leave interpreting the law for him and allow me too do what I do.

I hear ya about all of the in's and out's with the laws concerning MMJ. I too am thinking about becoming a CareGiver at some point, as I always believed in paying it forward.

As for the Compassion Centre, I envision it as a social gathering of patients where one could talk shop, different set-up's, and even perhaps if we had someone with the experience, could be like a guest speaker, talking about MMJ rights, How to become a CareGiver etc. Heck, maybe even invite John Theile to host a talk. Something along those guidelines.

I know that what happens in the parking lot after the meeting, should stay in the parking lot <wink> <wink> ... that would be up to the induividual and def would not happen inside my frioend's establishment.

Personally speaking, I am still new in my design and final stages of my cab, as well as only into Day (3) of my grow. My house is always open to anyone who is more knowledgeable than I to see and help me "tweak" anything that I am doing wrong. I guess I am just that kind of guy that is open and honest, and def not a closet grower. It prolly will hurt me in the end by being so open, but I really do not care for reasons stated above ... "Not A Closet Smoker of MMJ".

Again, thanks for the sub-forum, as it gives a chance for people just to "get things off their chest and onto paper ... well sort of like paper :-)

Peace and Love

I guess I will grab the bull by the horn and see what happens here ...

There will be an informal meeting of the Central Maine Compassionate Caregivers on Tuesday, January 3rd at 6:00pm. The location is at "The Pub" which is located at the west end of the Concourse in Waterville. This is a chance for all of us to meet and greet, share stories, ideas of any kind, and just for a real chance to put a face with a poster here on RollItUp.

There are pool tables, darts, and just great company. On Tuesdays, the owner runs a half-price pizza night, and the pies that are made here are to die for !!Please feel free to repost this on any media that you choose such as FaceBook, Twitter etc. The more the merrier, therefore spouses are more than welcome to join us.

Again, this is just an informal way of gathering the many ideas and suggestions in a more relaxed atmosphere. I am looking very forward in meeting those that I have not already met, and hope that this is just the beginning of something that will flower to a greater good.

Happy Holidays !!

Good grab, maineyankee lol

What the heck constitutes a "collective" anyway. People have a right to meet up and talk at least :) I guess really though the law pertains to pooling resources, growing together etc.

Thanks Tet :-) The way that "I think" the collective issue as far as what is wrong and what is right, is a loss of the 1st Amendment "Freedom of Speech." Who really cares if a bunch of us gather to talk shop? It is no different than a bunch of guys gathering an doing a fantasy football pool. Just because it deals with the "Forbidden Fruit", I surmise that Big Brother does not allow it.

By the way ... Maine Green Cross is holding an informal meeting tonight at 6:00 pm at Pat's Pizza, State Street, Augusta. This will deal with OUR Veterans and the current stigma with the Feds allowing them use of MMJ for THEIR treatments, especially PTSD. They gave up THEIR LIVES, so we may enjoy OUR FREEDOMS !

RICO laws.. I am not against the people getting together and chatting but "what's the threat" IF leo's want to come down, since it IS a federal violation and its a group of consenting aspiring/current criminals discussing an illegal enterprise, well you DO fall under RICO statute.

I agree Cerberus as usual. Just like it would be under RICO laws if a bar runs a football pool and openly places the squares in full view of it's patrons. I just think that there are way too many laws on the books, that sooner or later there will be a law of laws (Probably already in existence).

Just for shitz and googles ... Still on the books in this city that I reside; Blue Law #127a; "It shall be forbidden that anyone caught kissing the teacher, will be punished to the fullest extent of the law." Hells - Bells ... I have a classmate that dated a teacher while in High School, (Not Ethnically Cool), But have been married now for 34 Years ... Guess they did not have any kissing balls back then !

As someone who spent the better part of 20 years working for Mexicans i've done a good bit of research in RICO laws. They are incredibly complex cases to build from a prosecutorial standpoint, which is why you don't see many RICO convictions. OTOH, the way the law is structured once a case is built it's damn near impossible to beat which, combined with the mandatory sentences is why a RICO prosecution is considered the kiss of death.

As long as the pool pays out 100% (i.e. the house doesn't take a cut) they are not subject to federal statute.

Place the elderly in prisons. They will get a hot shower a day, video surveillance in case of problems, 3 meals a day, access to a library, a computer, t.v. & get Free medical care! Put criminals in nursing homes. They'll get cold meals, lights off at 7pm, 1 bath a week, live in smaller rooms & pay rent of $3,,000 a month. It's pretty sad that we treat criminals better than the elderly.

Unless they decide not to do either (California) and just set the prisoners free.

I have a question for those of you who are caregivers.
I was wondering if you folks retain lawyers?
I am planing on becoming a caregiver myself (in the early spring) and was wondering if I should plan on retaining one myself. And if you folks have, who specializes in medical marijuana law? Finally, ruffly how much would it cost to retain such a lawyer in case you need them in the future?

Thanks for all your help,

you should at least talk to a lawyer. retainer or any of that fancy shit, will be your call but spend the 100-300$ for a visit and discussion, its worth your time.

Thanks guys!
I think you are right cerberus. I personally wouldn't do anything more then grow my own personal meds without at least talking to an attorney. As they say ignorance of any law is not an excuse. With as many gray area's as there are in this program one can never be to careful in my eye's.

Thanks for the link mdanforth. Having an attorney is one thing, having one that studies medical marijuana law and is for the cause is far better.

Thought I'd share this.

They have a Bulova thermometer/hygrometer/clock at Renys for $15. the thermometer and hygrometer are both adjustable.
bul1078.jpg
For those that like an analog thermometer and hygrometer over the digital ones.
They should have them at all there locations.
