Former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates entered the latest guilty plea in the Russia investigation. As part of a deal cut with special counsel Robert Mueller's office, Gates admitted that he lied to investigators and conspired to conceal unregistered foreign lobby, and also agreed to be a cooperative witness. Lisa Desjardins and Carrie Johnson of NPR join Hari Sreenivasan to discuss the charges.

The tally thus far: 19 charged, 5 guilty pleas including Gates, Pappadopolous and Gates. Gates was involved throughout the campaign and the first year of the Trump presidency. He knew the Russian agents that met with Kushner and (tense music) Kusner's security clearance has just now been put on hold.

Nothing to see here. Shit thread.

Said every moronic Forrest Trump Chump! If this is all you have to post here, then please stop posting. You've posted it so many times that everyone already knows that you have nothing intelligent to say.

You've cemented your position as an uneducated, non-thinking, and belligerently egotistical moron.

Just like Forrest Trump.

Congratulations!

LOL

Are you going to leave this site when Mueller quite clearly links Trump's campaign to the now clearly documented Russian program to interference with our election? Do you deny that Trump said this: “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think that you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press—let’s see if that happens, that’ll be nice.”

the headline is kind of funny because they actually cover 3 questions. Oh well, I guess claiming to know that one big thing sells better. Anyway, this is why Gates flipping to Mueller is tripping right wingers including the RIU weasel.

The one very big question about Rick Gates' plea deal
https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/23/politics/rick-gates-mueller-analysis/index.html

The big question is: What does Mueller believe Gates knows -- and about whom?
The options, broadly speaking, look like this:

1. Gates knows about all of Manafort's activities

Manafort has, to date, denied any and all charges against him -- including the allegations Thursday that he and Gates laundered more than $30 million and didn't pay taxes on it for a decade.
"The new allegations against Mr. Manafort, once again, have nothing to do with Russia and 2016 election interference/collusion," said Manafort's spokesman on Thursday. "Mr. Manafort is confident that he will be acquitted and violations of his constitutional rights will be remedied."

U
mm huummm Mr Manafort. At the age of 68, you are staring at life in prison. Now that Gates has agreed to testify against you, how high does your voice go when you say those things? Inquiring minds need to know.

2. Gates can help flip Manafort
It's quite clear from Mueller's aggressiveness regarding Gates and Manafort over the last 48 hours that the special counsel is upping pressure on both men to cut plea deals.

Read Rick Gates' plea document
Gates has flipped. That makes Manafort's situation even more perilous. If Gates worked hand in hand with Manafort for a decade and is admitting that he broke the law -- and is willing to cooperate with Mueller's broader probe -- that leaves Manafort as a man on an island.

Perhaps Manafort is expecting a pardon? Is he willing to literally bet his life on that?

3. Gates has information on other people in Trumpworld
We assume that Mueller sees Gates as a path to Manafort -- whether for the purposes of nailing the former campaign chairman for his alleged wrongdoing in Ukraine or as a vessel into the innermost sanctum of Trump's inner circle.

But remember that Gates was in the senior management of the Trump campaign not only from the time Manafort was hired in May 2016 until he was fired in the summer. Gates remained on the campaign, serving as a bridge between it and the Republican National Committee. And, as The New York Times noted, Gates was close enough to the Trump senior brass that he traveled with the candidate on Trump's plane all the way through November 8, 2016.

Gates was there through it all. He knows where the bodies are buried. I just hope that Gates doesn't get drunk on the roof top of one of those Russian embassies any time soon.
