I used to do all my shopping in Ogdensburg NY
Not anymore. The ONLY time it would be worth it, is to take the hit on the exchange, hit up the food market that gives gas points, get 20c off the L a the gas station, fill up even cheaper and head home without a single tariff or duty on groceries/items under a set amount unless you stay for 3 days in the US and rack up a higher amount to take home duty free.

Did I say that? Or did I say check out the statistics on restaurants in Niagara region. They are up here spending money. Maybe not on cars, but food yes.

So what's cheaper in Canada then?
What's cheaper? Lets see, my wife ordered a bunch of shoes from the states, clearly cheaper. Exchange rate kinda quashed that a bit, then once she got them she was extremely happy, only to find out customs charged an additional amt to bring the total cost more then what she could have got them for LOCALLY.

Lets see, just bought my advanced nutrients from the states, $100 .. got dinged HST, so that was $13, customs valued it @ $140, shipping was $53 or so , plus the custom fee.

Yeah.. not cheaper by a long shot when I could have gone to Toronto and picked the shit up

Lol you and your wife lack of research on the importation process in Canada doesn't prove shit.

Well let me explain it for you. You and your wife thought you were getting great deals and totally forgot that importing almost everything from another country means your pay import tariffs on said great deals. Not to smart forgetting about that. Last time I was in the states I went to a outlet mall that we don't even have in Canada and bought 2 pairs of new shoes for $20+ tax for both!. One pair would have cost over $100+ tax in Canada. Now that's smart shopping. Why did you pay so much for shipping mineral slats resolved in water? Why not just buy the salts and save shipping all that water and mix it in yourself up here?

They are only just a few examples of cross border shopping we have done. Yes I factored items that are shipped, not bought across the border. Yes there are fees in shipping/customs. Yes I've made mistakes, but trust me, I'm ALWAYS looking for a bargain.

You pay that in gas, time, travel insurance, exchange rates, customs etc already if you were to drive. You can't win.
We have outlet malls, maybe new to you but there is a huge one called "Outlet collection at Niagara" which I have been too and got great deals from.

I also got big bud in powder, they don't make the rest of their products in powder unfortunately.
Which is why I prob won't buy ever again. Too much $$ and bs fees I got dinged

Oh and the customs fees were assumed covered in the shipping costs, but alas, Fedex sent me a nice bill that they paid on my behalf yada yada.. I owe them yada yada ... over a month later.

Also, our shoes, size and type/fashion and cost at the time maybe completely different from one another, so the costs are irrelevant all the same between both our arguments realistically.

Point being, if you see something here, and its 50% cheaper in the states, of course why wouldn't you be tempted to buy, but the buyer beware is what I'm trying to say, you will get dinged with more then you expect. It's not always greener on the other side.

On a side note, the exchange is 25% not 33% like I indicated earlier. Dumbass moment.

As far as cheaper goes, flying to Hawaii from NY is cheaper then out of Toronto thats for DAMN sure.
