flying bugs

hey guys, seem to have an infestation and i have no idea what they are, what they are doing, or how to get rid of them :/ im a newbie please help

Difficult to tell from the pictures, but they're most likely 1:thrips or 2:fungus gnats.

Plenty of advice on how to identify and treat them both on the forum.

thanks, i live in south africa and its a closet grow if that helps at all? do those species do damage?

I'm not familiar with the bugs in SA, so they could be something else entirely.

Yes, thrips will damage your leaves (or at least their larvae will) and fungus gnat larvae will munch away at your roots.

ok so i think they are dark-winged fungus gnats. gonna start looking online but if anyone has the knowledge and doesnt mind dropping it here, i would appreciate it just in case i cant find a solution (unlikely). thanks

will neem oil kill them?
