exactly what wattage cfl will i need for just one plant in a 8' long by 2' wide growing space(like harry potters room under the stairs. any advice will not fall on deaf ears. THANX!!
There is way too much info on here about lighting to be able to ask such a vague question. How about you say what your budget looks like (including power bill) and then we can help. If you are going to buy CFL's, buy a lot of them. I use the cheap aluminum clip lights you can buy at every home depot or lowes. Get them close. You don't want to be able to see the plant much, you want to see only metal reflector and light bulb. Get the lights close in other words. Real close. I put a fan right on my plants because some of the leaves grow right into the bulb, within a day. Definitely switch to 2700k bulbs when you go 12/12. Most of the energy saving lights are 2700k because it takes less energy to put out as much light at the lower color temp. You can buy 150w replacements for 9 bucks. Or buy the standard 100w replacements and buy a lot. I got through the veg stage very successfully with 2 300w replacement bulbs. For flowering I left those lights but added 3 more 15 w replacements. This is for 2 plants one of which is an LST plant. I find this to be the best way to maximize light on the right parts of the plant. I also groomed another plant to be very bushy as in it has about 5 colas, 4 real strong ones. My power bill went up 20 bucks with 3 lights on 24 hours. Now in 12/12 I am adding lights so it will remain pretty much the same.

If you want to grow 8'x2' with HID's then your bill will be more than mine. Probably a lot more since you will probably be told to get 400w of HID which you will have on from 18 to 24 hrs a day. This can add up. Do this during the summer and forget your air conditioner to avoid any electric company scrutiny.

I am now grooming a plant to grow in a pot LST style but I will put it outside all day and inside at night. Free light. 24 hrs for 4 weeks and then flower by leaving it outside for 12 hours then into a closet in the dark.

Be creative. Bring more experimental knowledge to the forum. Don't be a cookie cutter operation. This is an art and a lifestyle. So go out and buy some lights.

Im using cfls, I want hps but the budget and the heat....I cant get a cooling system AND and hps system too. So Im sticking with cfls entire way and 2 grow tents one for veg the other for flowering. I have a ton of 26w 6500k cfls for grow and will flower soon, with several 300w equivalent lights and a ton of my 26 watt 2700 k lights. with a nice flan blowing to keep it cool. In the closet im using for flowing there is an attic vent I will open to see if that helps with the odor problem. My ww is 1 1/2 ft tall in just veg I can go up to 6 ft growth.

I'm just a nubie here and on my first grow but...
So far I have had some good luck with CFL on my single plant bathtub grow.
It's flowering and I'm as excited as hell about the way things are going.
I just hope I don't screw it up on harvest and curing.

So LST method of tying down to grow horizontally would probably work best with the CFL's?:weed:..

I have 2 23w CFL bulbs with reflectors, how many more should i get for one plant?

I have really fallen in love with the 65watt bulbs. I am currently using two of those (65k) and one 26watt (27k) for vegging and plan on switching to the reverse setup for flowering. It's basically 10k lumens for a single plant.

Combine this with LST, a dash of topping or FIMing and some scroging and you have a rather pimptastic setup using cfls for a single plant done on the super cheap.

I have a wardrobe type closet, where you would hang up your jeans and suits etc.

I have purchased a CFL Envirogrow 67000 spec for Veg, and a 27000 for flower.

It cost me around £50, but this includes the hangers, and it is HARD AS HELL to get the apparatus for lighting like this around my area.

Anyway, i have 4 plants on the go. I bought 10 seeds of cheese, but only 2 of them germinated, but scince cheese is hard to get in britain, i counted myself lucky.
Unfortuantly, one of them is dieing, so he is soon to be gone, whereas my otheone is 5 weeks old and doing perfectooo :D

I also have 2 chronic cuttings, rooted and growing in veg.
All this using CFL's, i reccomend it for first time and stealth growers, as i am a first timer too :D

Peace, and happy smoking!! :joint:

I use CFL lights, its a pretty ghetto setup but i have good knowledge so That's what really counts reguarding end results
Three 100w 2700k CFLs and One 75w Fluoro Tube Growlight ; Organic Soil, Mixed with Fert and Citrus Cactus Soil, and Perlite. Plants looking great so far @ 2wks in Veg. They are of Jamaican Red Hair Descent they like to stay dry and only need water every 3 days. Im still waiting patiently for my SSK in the Mail! So my question is, are there any other kind of lights that produce Red and are good for flowering besides the ones stated in this threadpost?

hoping someone can help. noob grower, 2nd grow, never tried indoors before. ive got a cabinet im going to use thats 3ft tall, 2ft wide, and 1.5ft deep. id just like some guidence as to what wattage cfls i should use and how many for one plant. i dont have a lot of money for this project since work is slow. ill be trying the LST method as well. also, my plant will be been outside until i get the cabnet ready. it hasnt started flowering at all (i planted it REALLY late, only about a foot tall if standing straight). just wondering if itll be ok coming inside (im keeping an eye out for those bastard critters). one last thing, im kinda confused as to what to do with this plant since its mid september and isnt flowering at all... is this a problem? id prefer it stay vegging so it grows a little more. just wondering if ts gonna screw it up somehow haha. it hasnt shown any signs of being male or female

When it comes to CFLs, the bigger the better, obviously. You can pick up the big 42w at target or walmart for like 8 bucks each. 6500k For veg stage (use 18/6 20/4 or 24/0 light cycles).

Switch over to 2700K for flowering. (12/12 cycle only)

For LST, if its still vegging, go ahead and LST. Its not recommended to lst during flower.

Yes you can bring your plant inside, just make sure nothing comes with it (bugs!)

Just stay strict with your 12/12 cycle. It is very important they get no less than 12 hours of pure darkness a day. And i mean PURE. The slighest light leaks can delay flowering.

Sex wont be shown for few weeks into flower, typically when nodes start alternating instead of being parallel to each other.

Also, plants tend to double, even tripple in size when going into flower. a 1 foot plant will end up anywhere from 36-48 inches (maybe even bigger) tall at the end of its life.

i wuss just at my homedepot and thy have this big ass 65watt= 300watts 2700k cfl this thing is fucking huge its 15 bucks its dope just thot i should throw that in there plan on geting it for wen my girls start flowering

This thread was started in 2006.

It is amazing how the answers don't change over the years.
