Update

Day 20 since birth ,more and more pistils. It is starting to smell ,quite bad for its age -not a single bud has yet formed-- ,and for what is being advertised as a "stealthy" strain.
Had to improvise a carbon filter.

Did your SS#1 stink also? What is the average "finish" time for this strain?

Day 23

Moved some fan leaves out of the way in order to expose bud sites.Used some C-shaped pieces of gardening wire to keep them tucked under the tiny side branches.
Will start a light nute solution next time I water.

Update - day 30 since poking through soil

The DIY carbon filter does its job well ,the smell has disappeared from the room. I had stopped the ventilation yesterday ,just for a minute , while removing some DVD cases from under the pot.................and I was actually feeling the smell creeping back in.Small but stinky hehe.

The first true leaves (single bladed ones) ,have yellowed ,over the course of last week. The rest of the leaves are fine.

Is it too early to experience fan leaf yellowing? I'm only at day 30.I remember the other autos I grew (Betty Boo from JD) ,had even kept their cotyledons green until late in flowering.

I use a light fert solution (1/4 -- 1/5 strength) ,from Plagron -,a fert which can "apparently" ,be used with every watering throughout the entire flowering period.Terra Bloom or something like that is the name - NPK 2-2-4.

It can be combined with its "cousin" ,an additive PK 13-14 ,after the 4th week of flowering ,as indicated on the label.

Of course ,I fert once every 2 waterings ........never been too "trigger-happy" , when it comes to nutes , for fear I might burn the plant. So far ,no nute burn ,only some heat stress due to high temps in the house ,and/or some leaf blade tips getting too close to the side CFL.
Max temp in the tent was at one point 88 degrees.

In conclusion ,I have 2 questions :

1. Is it too early to experience yellowing of the first true leaves?

2.I have some R/O water that I use to top off my aquariums. Can I use that to water the plant ,and do I need to lower its PH a bit (since R/O has a PH of 7) ??

Day 37

Starting to fill in......Had to stop using on the side 40watter CFL ,it was bringing up the temp too much ,and the fan leaves would always touch it and burn their tips.
Better safe than sorry.

I would like to ask for some opinions about 2 issues :

This yellowing at the tips of only the upper fan leaves 1st pic ,I suspect heat stress ,there is also a curved up leaf to the right

DSC08309.JPG DSC08310.JPG
And this yellowing of the lower fan leaves ,which I suspect as N defficiency ,or maybe nute water spash while watering.....
I lose one large lower fan leaf per week ,I saw that is normal in flower..........what do you think?

The medium sized leaves are ok ,I think it will pull through until the endDSC08308.JPG

Never mind the badly burnt leaves tips in the back............those were caused by touching the side CFL while stretching ,I had caught them literally resting on the bulb.

They have been like this for nearly 2 weeks ,and the browning hasn't advanced ,so I am certain it is no other factor involved.

One last thing ,I am only at day 43 ,is it normal to have so many brown pistils already?

Bump.....anyone?
first pic is slight nute burn .... just a guess ... but the leaf curling up is probably really trying to curl down ( claw ) and just got bumped up if you run your fingers down that leaf it will probably claw down ...its just the plant letting you know it has enough nitrogen border line too much .... second could be a lot of things ...... possibly a air movement issue ???? you have a problem with fungus gnats ?

whats up with the fan leaves ?? youre losing one a week ??? what do they look like ?

No fungus gnats ,given the heat increase ,humidity has been in the 30's ,lately
As far as nutes go ,I went for 1/4 -1/3 strength at most.

My latest watering was 1/2 strength ,for a first time during this grow.

I admit using an additive which contained N ,from Plagron(Plagron Bloom).....it was a 4-2-2 NPK ,about which was said that it could be used with every watering ,during flowering period.

I used it every 2 waterings.

Also used a separate PK 14-15 ...an additive from Plagron... which can be used together with the Plagron Bloom ,as recommended on the label........... ,once every 2 waterings also ,.

Between nute waterings I used plain PH'ed water.

The fan leaves I'm losing show the classic N defficiency (according to what I saw online) ,they start yellowing like the one from the pic .....although sometimes it doesn't start at the tips,,,,,, , ,.........the lowest ones (single blade) had yellowed first ,around day 30.Then ,I lost the 3-bladed ones ,a week ago ,and now ,the 5 bladed one is starting to be affected ,as you see in the pic.

Strain is Short Stuff ,stated to finish after 60 days from germination.

PS
Tried to run my finger on the "curled up" leaf ,and it hasn't "cupped down"

its probably lack of light killing the lowers then ...... you are feeding it so it should just stay green till the end ...... the classic dried up fan leaves / bud on a stick look really only happens when you stop feeding them for a few weeks or flush them hard ..... they should be dark green and healthy at chop if they are being fed enough

the plant doesnt just fall over and die after flower , it would enter a more hemp like growth after a stall / recovery period ..... good to make bracelets or rope but no good other wise .... breeders claims are just somewhere around the optimum window usually more on the early side

What is the "bud on a stick look"?

Somehow it makes me think at the County Fair ,yet I doubt it has anything to do with it.........:)

its when you starve the plant bad enough in late flower bad enough that its just buds left bongsmilie it was more of a jeff dunham reference , nothing scientific or anything .... what kind of air movement do you have under the canopy ?

Thanks for reminding me about ventilation ,I used to have a small ,yet very powerful PC processor fan to move the air inside.
I had disabled it for a while ,it was getting in the way ,as I had it positioned at that time.

It was rather noisy and has even chopped the tip of a fan leaf blade.Maybe I should reinstall it ,under the canopy ,for some extra air movement.

The ventilation is now made only by the exhaust fan ,a 120mm PC Case fan ,at the top ,above the bulb. The fan is rated up to 79 CFM.
It sucks air through the lower vents/intakes of the tent ,those rectangular thingys ,with flaps.

My grow space is a small tent 35cm x35cm x 60 cm ,so I thought that the exhaust fan by itself would be enough ,for my 2 cubic ft.
The highest temp ever was 88 degrees ,only one or 2 times ,by the way ,but that due to the heat in the room and summer hot weather.

think its time to kick something on .... its getting big enough that the tight fit may become a problem would be awful to get some kind of mold or mildew this late into it

day 49

She has taken quite a beating the last couple of days ,we had hot weather, up to 95 degrees temp in my area ......maybe because .....it;s Summer?:)

Of course ,I have no air conditioning ,and I suffered from the heat alongside her......
Anyway she seems to be holding up pretty well......

Never mind the 2 burnt blades tips ---those were caused during stretching ,when they decided to rest on the side CFL I was using.

I gave her another PK feeding yesterday ............when should I start using plain water only? It's day 49 and the strain is rated at 60 days finishing time.DSC08314.JPG

That 60 day strain estimate is bullshit , I have grown enough AUTOS to know that is an ESTIMATE and under PERFECT CONDITIONS ONLY. your true harvest time can go as far week 10. She will get bigger after 60 days. I would say to check her triches around day 60 and begin cutting nutes around week 9 . THEN only PH water til the end.

All breeder times are estimates only.

Most Short Stuff strains I've seen in journals were cut around day 70-75

When you say "she will get bigger after 60 days" ,do you mean pack more bud? Because stretching stopped about 2 weeks ago..........
