i let it go back . i kill the rattle snakes there thou, killed one a summer or 2 back, had a squrill in its belly, i did eat the rattler passed on the squrill.

had a friend get bite by a baby water moccasin last summer while frogging in a crawfish pond
he almost lost his leg...and its ugly and mostly bone now.
It'll die anyway cuz that hook probably punctured
some organs or its stomach.

That's my fear with snakes, poison.. if the wrong one bites you then it's game over.. idk venomous or not except the obvious so I put them all in the same category.. snake..

Sorry to hear about your friend.
Growing up in a rattlesnake area, they taught us in school what most venomous snakes will look like. Poisonous will be more diamond head. Gophers and gardeners and kings don't have this:

With that said, i got some stories of me and my brother getting caught fucking with baby rattlers when we were kids. Lol. Hard to tell when you're a kid with them baby rattlers. They don't sound off and their head isn't diamond :-)

My buddy shot a rattler in his front yard, he is 6' 2" ish and he held it by the tail with arm fully extended above his head and the snakes head was laying on the ground

He stuck it in a big trash can with lid and told me to look in it :cuss:

I made some smoked trout dip last night to take to my friend's 20th annual May Day party this afternoon- I made the smoked trout 2 years ago, I've kept it vacuum-sealed in the fridge for up to 4 years in the past. My recipe only has 5 ingredients: cream cheese, sour cream, minced shallot, worcestershire sauce and of course smoked trout.

F'ing snakes... keep me south!

Countdown has begun! Tomorrow is the fishing opener for me. no lakes yet in MN or WI but the river in between opens! I'm a river rat and the St Croix is my favorite!
Hopefully tomorrow I post a pic of 6 walleyes and/or sauger:bigjoint:
Hey Dux, what's the biggest fish in the St Croix? In '82 myself and a buddy were fishing there w/ light spinning gear, wam! He hooks into something huge and snapped his rod, took off and the reel started screaming and steaming. That was snatched from his hands and disappeared. I thought maybe a sturgeon, he said no, something else

I caught a 61lb Flathead 8-9 years ago! Missed the state record by 9lb's. those fuckers are bad ass! Blow channel cats away. there's big sturgeon too but a Flathead is a much more powerful fish!
I also would have had the mooneye record had I documented it, basically it was a 3lb shad:mrgreen:. and a giant American eel too! Creepy ass critter! You could see his Lil beady eyes looking at you as I was trying to shake him loose( with long needle nose pliers)

Got a pic of that flathead? Pretty sure I've got a record rock bass before. Was always told they were shit fish so let it back. Shot a seriously 40+lb raccoon, maybe larger that should have been weighed. Saw the largest beaver and snapping turtle at the lakes. Snappers head was as big as a softball if not bigger maybe 100lber. Didn't feel good skinny dipping after that sighting. Couldn't find a rigged pole when I was young, wrapped like some 12lb test line with a daredevil attached around my finger, after seeing the lake famed muskie wider than the dock. Thing splashed water in my face when it took off...
