First Time Trying DWC

If you had a light leak bad enough to cause any problems you'd know. Minor light leaks are no worries. It's probably just the strain, I've had some take less than a week and another take 3 weeks. Just gotta give her time.
The light leaks are very very minimal. The problem was the additional cfl's I put in there were not on the damn timer and were running 24/7 :cuss:Now the damn thing is still getting huge and who knows when she will flower.

Good to know that it may take a while for her to flower. Thanks

I usually treat light leaks as a major problem, these things can lead to stress and can and do cause Hermaphrodites. So if you would like to be a proactive forward thinking grower and would like to tighten up the ship, look for light leaks regardless. Running fast and loose can be a source of real issues that are detrimental to the final weight or quality of your grow.

Enjoy your grow, do not stress about stuff and know that you did your homework and you can solve your own issues by the process of elimination. I kow when my plants do well my happiness is multiplied.

Glad I could help you out friend, don't sweat the large plant. You can take some clones of the larger tops wait a week and then flip after she has recovered from the clone taking.

Either way you were right to ask questions, this is how we learn, reflect on the process and repeat. Next grow you will most certainly not forget ;)

I am not really concerned about light leaks because the tent is in a room that receives no light. My problem was the new additional lights were not on a timer, I swear sometimes the easiest mistakes take the longest time to realize. Thanks for the encouragement even with my noob ways.

Here are a couple of pics to show how she is looking. Nothing like a lot of the other grows on here but I am very happy with where she sits.:bigjoint:

I see the start of a flower :) I would just let her flower from where you are at, your plant looks fine friend. We all make mistakes no matter what we do, I drained 40 gallons of water out of my RDWC because I forgot to open one ball valve and close another LMAO!!! you learn and move forward. I will be waiting to see the final product :).

Keep the nutes between 500 and 600 ppm PH between 5.5 and 6.5 and a weekly water change would just about garuntee some form of reasonable success, it is so hard to say but by looking at your lady you should be in for some nice weight if all goes well.

It's a healthy plant. I'm not a fan of LEDs for flower but you should pull something half decent by the looks of her.

My long term advice would be to push the boundaries a bit on your next grow. If you're into the growing side of it, you can look into numerous methods of manipulating these plants to almost endless degrees.

Personally, i LST, scrog, top, supercrop and HEAVILY defoliate my plants. Growers can get a bit set in their ways so you'll get differing opinions on most of these methods, but try it for yourself and you can see the results first hand.

Cannabis is a very hardy plant that people are way too afraid to mess about with. Treat her mean, keep her keen. :)

Thanks. I wish I would have planned to scrog earlier, I think it would have helped with it getting too tall. I really like messing with the plant to see what I can get her to do, I do this with house plants the family bring me. They almost kill them and I enjoy bringing them back to life.

You sound like my kind of grower!

The amount of light has a lot to do with how much your plant will get 'leggy'....i.e tall. I have no idea why people speak about cannabis plants in terms of their height...it means absolutely nothing when it comes to how much the plant will yield, or how good the end product will be. In my opinion, the shorter the better.

I veg with LEDs and aim for 45-50w (actual draw) per square foot, and my plants don't get leggy at all, in fact, if anything, they are a bit too short this grow....but i want my plants to grow out, not up. You can achieve this by various methods i've mentioned above.

Also, i have noticed a distinct reduction in the stretch if you increase the temps during lights off for the first week or two of flower.

I've just opened my tent to get a couple of pictures of the way in which i grow my girls. these have been lollypop'd so you can see the stems quite easily. Pictures are a bit shit but you'll get the idea.

As i said, you'll find numerous different opinions on all aspects of growing cannabis, but in my humble opinion, height causes nothing but problems, especially in tents, and is not something to aspire to.

If you can't get more wattage in there, try the increase lights off temps after the flip trick next time and it should help. :)

Wow last last picture really shows some buds :bigjoint: Yeah I am not about having an extremely tall plant, I would prefer it to be a little smaller and manageable. I know that sounds weird to some people who want more more more, but as long as I can get some smoke and enjoy the grow who the hell cares what I pull off her. It is a fun experience for me.

Thanks again man I really appreciate it.

You'll get some nice buds off her, just keep doing what you're doing....she's got the right shade of green, in my experience that means a happy plant.

Good luck. :)

Moody Shoes hit the nail on the head she will be fine, I used to LST but now I find it easier to just let them do their thing mostly because I have a few businesses now and they pretty much tax all my spare time and whats left over gets divided between family and hobbies. So I just keep a perpetual harvest going. No need to push the plants for me, as there will always be something on the go. This Canopy is made up of DJ's gold, GDP, White Widow and UK cheese.

In my cheese phase I really enjoyed it's ability to be an all around smoke, good at night and day time. The Super Critical in that cheese should give you some nice large buds at harvest. Do you have a grow journal?

Cheers

I'm the same, I have light leaks out of the tents, but not in, as they are in their own dark room 24/7, except when I light it up.

Also light leaks don't really matter to much. I've done loads of grows years back in a cupboard in the UK and that thing leaked harder that the bp horizon spill. Never had a herm.

So I went to check on the gal last night and when I opened the tent I was amazed at the size. She is filling out really well, looks healthy and you can finally see that she is finally in the flowering stage. I added about 2 gallons of water/nutes last night because she is drinking like crazy.
I didn't get any good pictures but when I was adding water I swapped buckets and took a quick picture. I trimmed up a lot of the unnecessary growth underneath the canopy after the picture. May not be the biggest and baddest plant out there but I am 100% happy how this grow is going and I must say that for me, DWC is the only way to go. I have had much better luck than I did in soil.

So a quick note about my roots. Earlier in the grow the roots were really brown. I thought it was a dirty bucket and then I thought it may be that I did not wash the hydroton off good enough. Now that my roots are booming and filling out the bucket, they are a nice white color with the only brownish color near the net pot. I am pretty certain the problem was dirty hydroton. So next grow I will make sure to clean that shit up really good before placing my girl in the net pot.

Well let's see how she does now, we had a power outage 2 nights ago and it messed up my timer by 2 hours. I went to do a flush last night and my light was off, I couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong then I remembered that the timer doesn't work if it doesn't have power. Shit. It is only like an hour and a half off but when everyone says that timing the lights needs to be exact, and now it is off it has me worried just a little. She has taken some abuse and bounced back just fine so I am hoping this is just a minor bump in the road.
