You gota remember with many tops the plant is going to direct the energy to the tallest ones so if you can stay at the same level buds will be the same for the most part.
How much stretch you get is mainly strain dependant with a few tweaks to the enviroment you can help them stretch warm and humid. With warm darkntemps.

I used to tuck for weeks nowni just grow big bushy plants and whennthey reach a certain height i squash the net down on them and pull the tops out very easy and no more tucking for weeks unless you have a short strain
As to the bud size question yes the overal size of each individual buds may be smaller but they will all be full developed and not larfy.
Also i dont think that terminal buds weigh more but the buds look more impressive (also a bitch to dry thick buds if mold is a concern)
In my head its like this 5 big buds or 50 small ones
weight is weight and they all get cut a little to fit in jars anyways imo
