First time grower HELP

Hello. I am new to growing marijuana. I live in the middle of a big city, with very little space. I was wondering if I could possible grow a single, autoflowering strain indoors with a 160w full spectrum LED light. No tent. No nothing. Just a light and some soil. Is this possible? I’m not looking for a huge yield. Just a little bit of bud here and there.

Also, would this stink up my SMALL household badly? I live with others and I don’t think they’d appreciate the house smelling like weed. What if I secluded the plant in a room by itself?

Thank you so much in advance. If there is any advice/tips you may have I’d really appreciate it. I’ve been wanting to grow for awhile now but I’m just not sure how to go about it.

Hey mate. Short answer is no. Its an expensive hobby to get started. Efficiency wise aswell, even if you had that 150w in a tent and scrogged to use all the 150 watts that you could, i reckon you would still pay more in electricity than what its worth in weight. I gram / watt very unlikey to happen using 150 watts. Id say fork out the little extra mate itll be well worth it.

I can sometimes smell single plants all the way from the backyard when I open the door, and I have terribly weak smell.

Depending on the strain yes it could be smelled...
If it's a super short flower for the auto you will get a few grams off of it for sure.
I say just try it out and have fun with it.
Great growers spirit bro. Much respect. Fun and love for this plant is why we are here.

What? No. Just no. 150 watts is plenty of light to grow a nice personal head plant. On top of that, yield would have to be extremly bad to be not worth the cost of electricity. This is some of the worst advice ive seen in this forum.

You will need odor control. No doubt. Small tents can be found cheap on wish. I got a 2x2x4 and 2, 2.5x2.5x2.5s all for 30-40$. A 4” inline fan and filter setup can be found for under $100. Spectrum king closet case, some decent soil and basic cheap nutes and youll be growing yourself some quality meds and enjoying the process. The place to not skimp is genetics. If youre a regular consumer, your setup and a nice pack or 2 of quality beans will easily pay for itself in a cycle or 2. There are many options for what youre trying to do.

I've started with less than what you have, it will not stink until gets flowers. So you have time to build a little cabin even a carton box will do the job, then pc fans to move air in and out. You can do it man, and with 160w you can easily get half oz if soil and environment are nice.
In order to control odor, you just need a lady sock filled with activated charcoal ( 10€ / kg ) and make sure that the air that came from inside the box passes through the sock.

I have two 150w ufos that i use that barely get me from propogation into veg, let alone flower. Just my 2 cents. Electricity is 27 cents/kw hr here. You can do the math shits expensive.

Those ufos are probably only consuming like 75w each and are blurple? How much space are you trying to cover with them?
240w of led light over 2.5x2.5:B01266A4-F260-437D-A151-67367E623263.jpegyou would be better off with a setup using household led bulbs010CC281-328B-4BAD-BB99-FA29A059DB6C.jpeg

You would need a stronger light but if you had a single autoflowering plant you wouldn't have to worry about an enclosure like a tent to control photoperiod and with a single plant in an open space you wouldn't have to worry about exhausting the air to control humidity or bring co2 so it is definitely possible.

The issue is that you'd have absolutely no control over the smell so even with a very low smell strain I wouldn't expect your roommates to be very happy with you.

If I were to get a small tent, say a 24x24x48, would I be able to filter that air out to basically no smell? Or I could I keep that ‘oh so good’ smell contained into that one grow room?

There's basically 2 best practices for dealing with smell. One is where you use an activated charcoal filter to repeated scrub the air in a sealed room and the other is where you have the same type of filter hooked up to the exhaust fan in a non sealed scenario.

I thinking the best thing for you would be the small tent with the filtered exhaust. It would filter the exhaust from the tent and recirculate a good portion of the air in the room acting like a scrubber in a sealed room at the same time making it more efficient. Of course it wouldn't be a sealed room. The normal air exchanges of your house should be enough to maintain decent conditions as long as you're not using a hot light and don't already have high ambient temperature or humidity.

Yes you buy an inline fan with the same size carbon filter. You could get a 4 in and depending how strong it is keep it at half power. You keep the carbon filter in the tent and have the inline pull the stinky weed air through the carbon which scrubs it and makes it neutral smelling.
