First time grow 4 x 8 lighting suggestions

I’m open to DIY but currently I know next to nothing about setting one up so I’d prefer pre built.
Thank you for the suggestion on the light. It looks great but something that worries me is only have a 1 yr warranty as opposed to many other companies offering 3 years.
check out ChilLed than they have Plug-N-Play and great ;lights you can not go wrong with these guys. DIY made easy

And a 600 can get a experienced grower almost 2 lbs a light in a 4x4.
It will NOT take at least $1,500 if he goes DIY. With LM561C strips, he can easily do it for less than $1/watt. It will take about that much if he goes with a pre-built HLG 600H, but those lights will last for years without maintenance, and used properly, each will outperform a 1,000w HPS. Also, he said money wasn't too big a deal.

I mean you could but if youre to do that might as well build a samsung strips set up right away from the start.. at 650-700w maximum for each 4x4 seems to be about the maximum you can push before you need to add co2 for additional benefits..
I do already have a full co2 system so pushing past 1400w is definitely an option.

Im very interested to see grow journal or reports of 2pounds on a 600w hps in a 4x4.. there is not many.. most reports ive seen range between 300-600g and 600g would be experienced grower in perfect condition.. that would not even be 1.5pound off one light.. not sure where you got your number from..

You're right in the fact HPS is cheaper but $1500 is wayyy to much for a diy strip build in a 4x8. Try $800 using bridgelux EB gen 2 strips or Samsung F-series.

You could run a similar system to the "suncloak" in that strips would surround the plant on all sides, meaning the canopy is 3D and if you had 35w/sqft on the top of a 3' deep canopy you could run 35w/sqft on the other 2' of canopy. So you can use more than 1200w in a 4x8 even without co2. Strips really open up a lot IMO

I always reference to final dry weight.. i am seriously amaze if youre getting 2 pounds with a 600w hps.. simply put 400w of more efficient light will get you the same result but 2 pounds off 400w LED that sounds very surprising.. are you using co2 ?

When I did my math for my 4x8 strip build it came to $1500 for 950 watts to replace the 2 600 for a 4x8. A more accurate conversion then the so called 50-60 watt equivalent.

HPS is superior if your budget is limited or if you actually need some more heat in your space. After that, physics steps in and crowns LED. More light per watt, and there's just no way around that.

Physics will also tell you you get more light from a 360 degree light than a flat surface emitter.

Yes and physics will also tell you that at 360 degrees unless you do vertical grow half of your 360 degrees light will reflect and reduce the effectiveness.. at the end of the day lumens/watt is higher in those LED vs HPS and thats roughly what we should be looking at when trying to compare oranges with apples

40 strips and 4 drivers
My phones screen is way to broken to do all the math but 30 x 4' EB gen2 strips @1050ma would be 1200w and require 4-6 drivers.

Strips are about $450-600 depending on availability and then if you're 110v its 5x hlg-240h-c1050b $290 (arrow) or 220v 5 x elg-240-c1050b = $200 (arrow) and then you can build the cheapest ally angle frame possible..

Then you've got to reflect it back and get more losses/heat etc ;) bare bulb vert obviously captures it all well. I think the key is having the perfect coverage, intensity and distance from canopy to minimise all loses and maximise what a plant can take.

Thank you for the information. So would you recommend cob over any other setups. And I should be looking for at least 1200 theorictcal output or actual wattage pulled from the wall?
There is nothing wrong with cobs and quantum boards, but I like strips for the high efficiency and the superb light distribution. Strips can be run closer to the plants due to lack of hot spots. I think it was @nfhiggs that outlined a 4x4 or 4x8 build with Samsung double row strips in the last couple weeks.

How much heat do those 600’s produce?
Would you recommend suplplementing side bar lighting around the edges to encourage density growth? Along with the 2 hlg-600.
600 watts of LED make the same heat as 600 watts of HID, HPS etc., but LED makes around a third more light for the same watts and heat.
LED has less radiant heat so it's recommended to run air temps in the low 80's rather than 75 or so. BTW, strips are great for side lighting, I have one hanging by the wires in each corner.
