first time doing dwc

here is my set up
1x600 hps cool tube vertically
4'x4'x6' grow space
all white inside
2 20 gallon containers with 8 plants in each, am planning on only veggine until about 6-8" tall then flower.
i have a 6" 250 cfm fan, a osc. fan. and the temperatures dont exceed 78.
i have a chiller for my res' that i built using a fridge, and wort chiller from the brew shop. I can keep my water at 68 degrees all day long!

My main question is how should i arrange the plants in my room, i dont want tall ones cause my 600, i can always add another 600 to the area, but would 2 600 be too much for that size room?

I will post pics asap.

Keep the needing medicated!

Another question should be... How to get rid of "THE SMELL" when flowering..

Those are some pungent strains right der. :hump:

can anyone recommend a good strain for keeping kinda short? maybe about 2 feet to 2.5 feet max.

I did my test runs on my set up, ran my light, and everything. The room stays about 85 canopy and maybe 78 at base. The water stays a solid 69 and when the temp goes higher, my chiller kicks on.

BTW i made my chiller using a fridge from walmart 74$, a tranny cooler 40$ and my existing tubes and pumps from my aero set up. total about 140 finished. I wired a circuit to a thermo stat, that is placed under some cut out styrofoam insulation under the reservoir. when the t stat senses high heat, its 12vdc circuit closes, completeing the circuit to a relay which controls the circ pump to the coil in the fridge. I will have to take pics and put it up. So far it works very well... I have 25 gallon reservoirs and it keeps the temp at 69+-1degree...

a35586af.jpgthis is the a/c set to 75, it usually doesnt turn on until the the sixth hour of light. It cools the 4x4x6 room in a minute or so...
645f94dd.jpgthese are the inlets, 2x4 inch ducts with carbon filters in them to limit particulates in and out.
The light is a 600 hps hortilux with a home made cool tube, on a digital balast 240 vac. Room is built with poly foam white insulation and panda tarp and white 3/4 pvc
1a3b0be2.jpgUnder this reservoir is 3 layers of styrofoam, the top 2 are cut out to fit a thermo stat that i have wired up to relay which controls the pump that sends my nutes to a chiller i made from a tranny cooler and small fridge. water usually stays at 67 always!

97cad55e.jpgexhaust from ac, and the send to chiller is in the back, return is the closest tube.

1x15 and 1x25 gallon containers with 2 large air stones on a hydro farms pump, one eco plus 290 gph pumps to chiller, the return from chiller goes into the opposite reservoir, where a small cheap adjustable flow pump pumps between the tanks. this keeps the level even.
e8fb5afd.jpgtri meter to monitor my water!
526ade36.jpgsix inch inlet to light brings air from basement at about 59-66 degrees, depending on part of year.

Here is my cloner/mother set up. It is 2 80watt cfl for the mother area with a 12x3.5" net cup reservoir, 2 air tubes, one air pump dual out, and a aquarium heater which i may ditch? i will use the lucas formula for both the veg and flower, except i will use flor nova in flower. I am unsure on how long to veg, i want to do about 15 plants total between the two reservoirs in my flower tent. See above post for the pics.

here is the cloner, 2 air tubes and 1 air pump, and a aquarium heater under one flourescent plant bulb i adjust water to 5.9 and use filtered water.

I was planning on using Rosemans diy fan with ona gel, as well as using activated carbon filters on every vent or intake, and if i need to put them on, use the stick on scent filters, they are about 3 a pop at wal mart, and work really well...

Anyone got some advice? I am unsure how many plants to put under the light, or if i should go vertical or horizontal? I was thinking of a vertical scrog and about 10 plants total?

Hey bud. Sorry I lag. Pretty much any indica will be shorter than a sativa. Any plant is ok to grow short though. I'm partial to vertical. Whatever way you can get the most area covered with the light is the best. If you did a vert scrog with pants surrounding the bulb, I don't think you'd need 10 plants. Maybe like 4-6. Where you at now?

so my water temp is never above 67, I have gone with a ice chest reservoir and foam lid woth 6 net cups in it.

Room temps are maxed at 75
humidity is a little high at 40.

Nutes are at 1400 ppm per Lucas formula.
Ph is 5.9 avg.

Problem so far jello like material on roots...? Plants look healthy. So I am confused? Any tips? I'll try to get pics up asap

There may be light getting into the rez. Are you using any tank sanitizer? What exactly are you putting in your tank?

I am using filtered water, gh floranova bloom at 8ml gallon, and h2o2 3% at 3 oz per gallon.

There is noblight penetration at all to the water. The lid is foil taped and 1.5" foam.

Is there a additive I can put in the res?

yea i would do 4 to 6 to and if you do top them or fim them to either get 4 colas or to get it bushy to get a bigger yield. Just think about it 20 gallon res less plants means bigger root space. And you should make a tutorial on how to make that water chiller because I just bought a water chiller and its on back order and i need one ASAP

Snoop,

I am using a ice chest for my reservoir so there is no light getting in at all. Anyway I am using h2O2 amd see what happens.

I can try to make a tutorial on the res chiller, basically a small refrigerator, a trans cooler or a wort chiller, and a strong pump to pump fluid from res to chiler and back. The electrical circuit is a little tricky but that's if you want a temp controller. You can also just cycle the pump on a timer, that would work too.

Hey OP, I have a similar setup to you. 4x4x7 600hps

I'm going with Abusive OG and Apothocary OG
4 girls total (2 of each) in bubblebuckets with a scrog setup. they wont get too tall and worst case just more tie downs and bending.
